Default The Silver Beast's miss is fixed

If you have seen my pervious posts you know about the problem. My C3 developed a miss at the Drag strip and was not running very well. I tried everything, new petronix, put the point back in, new coil, new plug wires, new spark plugs, new cap and rotor, check voltage, compression, and eveything else I could think of.

I finally took it to a very good local shop and they put it on a scope and the timing was not stable. They said the distributor was bad and it needed to be replaced. They said the bushings were shot. I took it home and checked the bushings. .010 clearance at the bottom and .004 at the top. These specs were not that bad but I decided to get a new MSD pro billet tach drive and just try it even though I thougt that it was a long shot.

Guess what. The car runs better then it ever has. The idle is great, the miss is gone and the throttle response and high RPM pull is fantastic.

I would have never guessed that the distributor was bad. It did not feel bad. But what a difference.

The Beast is Back. :D

I would suggest to anyone having any miss make sure that their distributor is in great shape. With these cars getting old it is likely time to get a new distributor.

Your car will love you for it.

replace bushings is probably cheaper than replacing for eg. transistor dist.

MSD Pro Billet tach drive is definately the way to go. I installed mine when I was having problems with cutting out and got tired of fiddling with points. Now I swear by them. Glad to hear the beast is back.

Thanks for the support. This was one of the real low points "the pun was intended" of my C-3 ownership and motor building.

FYI the distributor was a points type that I had converted to to Electronic with the Petronix, but went back to points to try to identify the problem. It was not the points or the petronix but the actual distributor. 500 hp and a 30 year distributor did not mix in my case.
