ARGH! Streering Column Making me Crazy
I ordered a bunch of parts this week, and now I wish I hadn't, this is driving me nuts. I have sitting in front of me, the steering wheel hub, steering wheel, cancelling cam, horn button stand, horn button, emblem, and retainer. Why can't I figure out how this thing goes together? I don't understand how the horn button goes together.
Someone please help!

Do you happen to have the plastic rivets out of the horn contactor? If so, let me know, I fought with mine for about 3 days before I figured out the deal with that stupid little thing.

I broke my steering column assembly because I didn't bother to get the assembly manual. The parts I needed cost more than a used one. I bought a used column out of a 72 and put it in my 70. Moral of the story, do yourself a favor and buy the manuals, you will need the info sooner or later. Mid America sells all 4 of the books for our years. hope this helps

I guess the piece that is boggling my mind is the little 1.5" standoff thing on the horn contact, is that supposed to go in a hole or something? What the hell?

If you refer to the picture. I believe the horn contact standoff goes down into a hole in the hub. The eyelet is spring loaded up against it.

Re: ARGH! Streering Column Making me Crazy (ddn)
I just noticed that you have a 1968 Corvette. The 1968 steering column is not the same as the steering columns for the 1969 through 1976 Vettes. The 1967 and 1968 steering columns were the same. They were either standard (non-adjustable) or telescoping only columns. I don't have the AIM books for 1967/1968 so I don't have assembly information for the steering wheel, horn mechanism, or telescoping hardware. But I am pretty sure that they are the same for those two years but unique from the other Vettes.
This might be your problem.

Re: ARGH! Streering Column Making me Crazy (Dalannex)
Dalannex, thanks a billion for posting the diagram. This weekend I took apart my column and wasn't able to put it back right. The diagram solves my dilema.
Thx!
