'73+ hood on a '68-'72?
Will a '73 and later hood fit on my '69?
I know that I'll (happily) have to ditch the wiper door stuff, but is it a good fit without modifications? Also, what are the differences in the hoods from '73 - '82?
Thanks

I think the style of the hood on the 80-82 is a little different than the 73-79.The cowl of the hood is more pointed in the front.

73-79 uses a med. rise hood & 80-82 a low rise. The only hood better than 73-79 is the L-88 hi rise. The early med. rise got cool air from the cowl & later from above rad..

I have a 73 hood on my 72 that was on it when I bought the car. The corners of the hood are moulded up and do not blend into the windshield area like the wiper door does. It will function but you'll have to do somw 'gass work to blend it or buy an aftermarket hood for this purpose.

PS I'm going to install the wiper door and cut down the 73 hood to a mini L88 version. If you want to sell the wiper door let us know.

You can also use the 73-75 hood and cut the back off to make it work on the 68-72 while keeping the stock wiper door. This will give you a little cowl induction opening at the rear sort of like a mini L-88 hood. Since the 73-75 is a good bit taller than the base hood, the back of the hood will stick up a couple inches above the wiper door grille. I would not remove the wiper door stuff as you also have to modify your fenders to match the new profile at the end of the new hood. This will always hurt resale value and doesn't look right on a chrome bumper car imho.

Make sure you want to get rid of the wiper as I have spent over $1000.00 getting all the wiper door parts and refinishing them.

Ganey, what year splits the early and late med rise hoods?
GTR, do you have any pics? I was also thinking about cutting the hood and keeping the wiper door assembly. If I do get rid of my wiper door, I will store it away with all of the other original parts I yanked off.
Allan71, I have kept most of my original stuff, so IF I ever sell it, I can put it back to stock, but I never plan on selling it.
My plan is to keep all of the vacuum linesas it is (which is not complete), but just disconnect and plug it where it connects into the vacuum system. The only things I plan on removing are the actual wiper door and grill. I'm just pondering the idea for now and my main purpose for this is to get a cowl induction, and possibly a little hood clearance.

You don't have to eliminate the wiper door to have cowl induction or hood clearance. If this is why you want to eliminate it don't!
If it's because it doesn't work, learn the system. It's not tooooo complicated but it is spread all over the place, including under the dash.
