JL Stealth Box

JL Stealth Box
For the people that bought the stealth box with the bose speakers, did you change any of the other speakers? If not, does the base over power everything else?
Thanks

when I had a stealth box, I swapped everything out but the head unit. So new speakers, amp, and sub box. I don't think it would overpower it, but I figured if I was putting in an amp and box, might as well swap the speakers.

I got the Stealthbox first, and didn't replace any of the speakers or anything. I ran a 250/1 JL amp into the Stealthbox and it didn't overpower things at all.
However, when I did replace the factory speakers and run them through a JL 300/4, it really made a difference in clarity and so forth. But this was more a sound quality issue than anything to do with the bass.
Having the improved bass will just make you realize that you'll eventually want to improve the rest of the soundstage, but adding just the sub won't really take anything more away from the factory setup IMO.

I would like to make a recommendation about an alternative to the JL Stealth Box.
I am currently redoing my whole audio system. I was set on the JL Stealth Box, but then I spoke to forum sponsor Boxology. He makes one to similar spec.
The good stuff
1) You don't have to bolt it down to the car by drilling a hole through the chubby. You need to do this for the JL Stealth Box. This is great for track days when you want to take it out very easily.
2) You can put the better & more powerful version of JL sub the 10". It will work with the JL 10" W3 V3.
3) The material and craftsmanship appears top notch.
4) It's a lot cheaper
5) You have 3 choices...OEM carpet, raw gel coat, synthetic leather
I ordered mine and it should be coming by the end of the week.
BTW...not sure why you wouldn't upgrade the speakers while you are at it. Your going to have to strip out the car any way. With one amp you can power the sub and speakers. The additional work and money is not much more.

I have the Stealthbox and it sounded great with the factory setup for the few days I had it like that. It's a great upgrade and looks like it came with the car. Also, you do not have to bolt it down but the instructions do provide a way to do so. Mine is not bolted and believe me it's not going anywhere.

Had one put in with a Pioneer amp and it really sounds great. The bass is not over powering. I had already taken the center speaker out which in it self did improve the sound. I have speakers to change the ones in the door but it sounds so good with the stealth box I might not even bother changing them.

I currently have the stealthbox with a jl 250/1 amp. At first they had the amp cranked all the way up and it was WAY too much. I had them tone it down some. I also, at the same time, replaced the head unit with a panasonic Strada. The unit has a graphic equalizer in it, so you can adjust the sound to your liking.
At the moment, I am still running the rest of the original bose speakers, but will be replacing the fronts in the next week or so- Basically whenever the speakers come in. I will be using the JL audio zr650-csi -6.5's with the JL300/4 to drive them.
The Bose speakers seem to lose clarity at higher volumes, so that is why i decided to replace them.
Good luck,
Steve

On a side note you might want to give those ZRs more power than 75w. I have the C5-650s and they are powered with a 450/4v2. With the gain set properly the extra power really makes the JLs shine. Im no expert but I took the advice of knowledgeable people here.

Interesting alternative to the JL Stealth box; about what was the total cost for your box/speaker/and amp?

I have the JL Stealthbox powered by a JL 250.1 amp. I kept the factory head unit, but upgraded the side speakers to dynaudio powered by JL 300.2 amp. I disconnected the rear and center speakers. Sounds great now.

I have the Stealthbox with a 300/2v2 powering it. I have installed the bass control **** mounted in the ash tray cubby. I modulate the bass depending on volume and what Im listening to. The bass is not overpowering because you can set it where ever you like it.
