Approx. used LT4 Engine value
I am considering buying a used LT4 Engine for my 92,
What do you guys think would be a fair price to pay for a used
LT4 Longblock with the original intake manifold included?
Thanks,
Tony

If you can get that motor for 1500 bucks, do so. If you pass on it, please tell me because I paid 3500 for mine a couple of years ago, with all the accessories and harness, clutch and flywheel...which as I recall some said was too much.
But I was after factory reliablility and was not looking to repeat a job because rings didn't seat , incompatible parts into a rebuilt motor, balancing issues etc.
And whoever the poster was that said $1500 is double what it's worth is rediculously uninformed, and insulting to any lt4 owner. Don't forget that lt1 heads can flow more than lt4 castings but they have to have considerable work to do what a factory lt4 casting can do out of the box. So do you really think that 400 can get you there along with all the other upgrades to the lt4? Don't forget the lt4 is a 96 with more desireable features than 94 and below blocks. Don't forget the Damper that the lt4 uses is better than the lt1, the compression ratio is higher, the crank is better, rings, 1.6 rockers, intake manifold, and the list goes on and on.
I'm not an expert and there certainly are far more qualified people to tell you what the lt4 is worth, but tell any lt4 owner that you'll give him your lt1 plus 400 bucks to trade for his lt4 and you might find out that his factory lt4 is worth considerably more than the sum of it's parts.
Okay, I just read another poster said 200-300 more for the heads. Assembled Lt1 castings can be had for 250 all day long. If you can find a pair of better flowing flowing lt4 castings with their sodium filled and larger valves for a mere 200 more dollars, again, I would be happy to have as many as you can get at that price. That alone should tell you that at least one person thinks the value is considerably higher.
Again, I am not an expert, but have been around this forum for a long time. I've noticed a lot of noob's coming around here and spreading misinformation and that is making this forum less desireable.
No I'm not bitter for paying 3500 for an lt4 with 38k miles with all the accessories. Why? because I sold most of the acessories and made about 700 back bringing my total cost down to 2800, and then sold my lt1 short block for around 300 and the heads for 300 bringing my total cost down to 2200. Again, turnkey motor, facory buillt, genuine lt4 with 330 factory rated horsepower into which I put the hotcam bringing it possibly up to 350hp or so. So even your lowest estimate is way off base.
Tell me I'm full of crap...but I say you have no idea how desireable that motor is. $750...give me a break.

not around here, you can buy good running LT1 engins all day long for $500-$700
dont know about an LT4 in the mix, but 90% of the scrap yards around here dont even know what they have if they had one. we have TONS of scap yards in the flint area. 50% selling corvette parts.
I guess it all depends on your area you live in as to what you "should" pay

2. LT4 intake is not an upgrade over the LT1 intake. It has no particular value unless you have LT4 heads.

Show me an LT4 intake that sold for $300 recently. I've been watching on and off ever since the Edelbrock intake came out and I haven't found one for sale.
As far as it not being an 'upgrade' over the LT1 intake goes....Did I state that the intake by itself was an upgrade?
Again, you're not going to find LT4 heads and intake for $750 in useable condition.

I guess that means you can't prove what you said.
I asked because I'd really like to know the current value. I've watched since the Edelbrock intake came out and it seems like people stopped selling the factory intakes when the edelbrock version became available.
I searched ebay's ended auctions and couldn't find a factory LT4 intake that had sold recently. I did find an intake, throttlebody, and fuel rails with injectors that did not sell for an offer to the seller of $1210. Seems like someone still thinks they're worth something.

The current value is about what I already stated.
And as far as me having to prove something, look again at what I stated.....I quoted myself so you wouldn't have to bother with scrolling up to find it .
I haven't seen many LT4 intakes for sale in the last 6 months or so either, but those I've seen on E-bay and various forums went for $300 to $350. I attribute that to the introduction of the Edlebrock piece which costs in the neighborhood of $420 to $450 retail......and maybe a bit more or less on E-bay.

The days of the $600 stock LT4 intake are done and gone.

Thanks for your opinion. I already read that a while back. I'd like to see where someone is actually selling LT4 intakes for $300. Just because you 'said so' doesn't make it so. If there's so many of them out there selling for $300 (which is still more than they sold for new), why not show me?
Thanks for the link to the Edelbrock intake. I've had one for about a year now.
