Matt, AL Pavey in Massillon or in North Canton right off Portage Street behind the TA Truckstop I believe can get the paint made in the "original" colors by the original manufacturers. Thing is GM I believe also had different suppliers for paint such as Ditzler, PPG, DuPont, etc. When I had my bumper paint matched up on my '75, a guy from AL Pavey's came to my house here in Massillon that "read" the paint on the car. They should be able to do the same to your '68, if it's the "correct" color you want mixed. Plus you're '68 being White really is'nt that hard to match. Getting a "correct" '73 Yellow Metallic, or all the different shades of Yellow from '68-'81 to match is a chore compared to White.

Re: Who makes the best orig. paint colors? (Paul Borowski)
Paul,
I completely stripped my 68 and want it painted Code 976 LeMans Blue, the original color it had from the factory.
I took my doors to the body shop and had them paint the jambs with the color I bought from a reputable body shop supply house and they mixed me a quart of LeMans blue but it seems to be to shiny. It is called "Chroma Base" if that means anything and I know NOTHING about paint or body work.
Just doesn't look right.
In your opinion will the color be different if I try another paint manufacturer?
I thought code 976 was code 976 period, no matter who makes it.
Thanks in advance

kurt, depends on the person mixing the paint. If he's off a fraction on the metallic, fished result may be either too dark or too light.
In other words, you have to account for human error in mixing the paint

Each paint mfg. arrives at the facory color by their own formula. If you are doing the complete car the color code for the paint onthe door plate wil be fine no matter who's paint you get.. If you are matching an existing paint then most likely you would need to have the color eye matched as no two old paint jobs age alike. ie. in the sun, in the shade, always garaged etc.

Matt, it was painted in '93, missing the 25 year Silver Salute for '68s out at Bloomington,IL(actually at Springfield,IL). My color came out too light for International Blue. It should have been darker, but it looks decent.
My painter moved to Columbus, Ohio and is now painting Indy/Cart cars for Bobby Rahal Inc. in '94.
