Default placement of jack stands

Just purchased my first vette(78)pace car. Being new to all of this I need to know where to place the floor jack front and back and where to place the jack stands. thanks for any info.

When I jack up my 82, I jack the rear just in front of the wheels on the frame, and place the jackstands there. On the front, I jack it up on the area where the frame bends outward and put the jackstands behind the jacking point. Hope this helps :seeya

Make sure when you jack up your car that you loosen your T's and crack open the doors or when the body flexes it could cause damage to the body!

Mike, good advice. I once read a post stating that loosening the T-tops will prevent them from cracking.

Here's another heads up that I don't think I've seen addressed before. When I had my rear end apart to replace the swing arm bushings I noticed how the weight of the entire assembly seemed to be resting on the cotter pin holding the shims instead of the frame itself. If the cotter pin is missing, then the swing arm may indeed contact the frame, but is it doing so before it pulls up to the snap ring on the side yoke? Is the weight being supported by a tiny little snap ring inside the differential that can do major damage if broken and lodged in the wrong spot? Rather than answer that question, I thought I'd play it safe, so now whenever I'm going to put the rear in the air, I stick a block between the swing arm and frame to limit it's travel.

FYI: Doors will not open when on jackstands. (at least not in a convertible)

Jeff,

I can open the doors on my convertible when it's up. I put the front jackstands under the swaybar brackets ahead of the front wheels.

Call me crazy?

Mine do. But she's a '68 and does not have the additional latches/receivers found on the later drop tops.
