Default 5 speed Vs Big Block--> Ear Biting fun

After weighing up all my performance options i have been left with only 1 clear answer. Swapping a BB for my SB.
I was going to go the 5 speed route but this would still mean i have to rebuild my 350. Look at the list of things
I would need. -> New crank, rods, pistons, Heads, Extractors, Ignition, cam, rockers, etc PLUS the 5 speed and diff gears.
For half the price i can buy a 450hp 454 slide it onto my TH400 and it will work great with my 3.08 gears.
Is this a fair fight? I think not. But when u have 12 second quarter miles and a smooth idle whos gonna challenge?
Seriously though..I figure if im gonna spend the money i want most bang for my buck. And this comes in the BB.

My ranting is over.

Look at my user name. I like the small blocks and some on the forum have them running pretty hard. But still the big motor is going to get the job done better if built as a package and that inpart means don't over gear a mild Big Block because the right small block is going to embarrass you .I think we can turn that 450 hp into 550 and make it work with those gears for minimal expense.

Yeah we can always go to NitroMethane. At Aus$200 per 20 litres it wont be cheap to take to the shops. But what the hey!

Seriously though has anyone ever put a HEMI into a vet? Is the Hemi engine physically larger than a BB chev?

I can't think of any other little things, but you also have to change the front springs. And sidepipes. The BBs use an extremely expensive exhaust manifold so ya gotta go with sidepipes. Maybe a radiator? Not sure.

I would rather put a Caddy engine in, the 472 also has the benefit of using the same numbers as the 427... for the hood. " Ya. You didn't know chevy made a 472 just for 'Vettes"?

Why a hemi--> So i can say "yeah its all stock.........ahh.. apart from the 426 hemi, that is."

For the cost of diff gears here in aust u guys can buy a crate engine! Pipes? No worries, i have a friend who makes custom pipes for street rods and drag cars/race cars. U could see his work on my 650 HP sbc race car. I posted that pic a while ago. Now the only things that i need are mounting brackets for the power steering and alt.
