I have a 1977 350 4 Speed. I just had the wires done and the car worked great for a time now there is a definate lack of power in all gears when the rpm's get up. It will still get to highway speed it just takes longer. Sometimes when I restart it will give a little back fire. The firing order is set for HEI but I'm not sure that is what's there. Any Ideas.

get a haynes manual and look at the firing order there................

verify that you have the correct order...

get a timing light and check the timting..

you should be goin with something around 12 intitial BTDC and you wanna have like 32-36 TOTAL at somewhere around 2500-3000 RPM or sooo.....

btw, yes the 77 does have HEI....(if you are stock.......and nobody changed anything..)

the firing order is

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

so find the #1 plug on the distributor and go clockwise around and verify that it is in that order...

also check to make sure the plugs are on all the way... sometimes a plug pops off if they are cheap ****....

yes i have the haynes manual and the firing is all correct.
it seems like a connection coming loose somewhere. As the it worked fine then just crapped out. i had a wiring problem and fixed it (one was loose) but now same thing again. but everything seems tight.
i will have to check the timing

Also check for arcing after the sun goes down.Should be accompanied by a ticking noise.

It almost sounds like your vacuum advance is crapping out on you. Is the vacuum hose for the advance mechanism hooked up, hole in hose, etc??

Check the timing with an adjustable timing light if you have access to one. Check total advance - should be in the mid 30 range.

I agree with 70PurpleLS7, it sounds like your vacuum advance isn't doing the job it should be and I bet it's really sucking the gas too isn't it. :yesnod:
