Re: NHRA 1972 - Interesting Facts (Barry's70LT1)
Barry....nice car & color!!
Cool book.....I love this kind of stuff also...
It's interesting to see what the NHRA posted as the hp differences between the 70 and 71 LT-1 engines.......and how about those Big Blocks...WOW!!
The only thing I have ever read that really changed internally about the LT-1 engines was the compression ratio, this obviously dropped the hp down from the GM listed 370 to 330, is there anything else that changed from the 70 to 71 LT-1 engine internally that you know of ?

I think the NHRA is off a bit there, they are factoring the 435 tripower with alumn heads to have more HP then the L88 (495 for the tri power and 480 for the L88). Looks like they even bought into the factorys down played rating for the L88. :)

Re: NHRA 1972 - Interesting Facts
Many non Chevy guys claimed that Chevys are under rated. Instead of theirs being more over rated. F*rd took a 360 hp 390 C.I. & increased displacement to 428 C.I. & souped it up & according to F*rd lost hp- down to 335. W/ classes based on Adv. hp, you can see the advantage. This led to factoring.

I love your car. Kind of an odd feeling seeing someone else with your car.
Regarding the engine '70 to '71, the only difference that I am aware of is
the compression. I just checked the parts manual regarding the cam and
it is the same from '70 to '72. Heads and Pistons are different.
A question for you.
What coating do you have on your headers ?
I need to repaint mine again. Any suggestions. ?
Yours would look great with sidepipes !!

Yeh I now what you mean about seeing your car.....there pretty dang close! The 70 has to scoot a little quicker though....it might be close one with my 4:11 rear end....!
regarding the headers, I have the Hooker Ceramic Coated headers, competition model (Summit), they look the exact same way they did one year ago when I installed them....the ceramic coating is really tough, stays lookin great.....it also keeps the headers and engine compartment cool in temp.
Side pipes WOULD LOOK GREAT on mine as they do on yours.....maybe some day.....just bought new wheels though....check out my other post......you will like these on your LT-1 too!!
