I know C3s don't have typical GM rear ends because the pumpkin is mounted to the frame, it uses half shafts, etc., yada yada.
I also know that people incorrectly assume that "10-bolt" and "12-bolt" rear ends refer to the number of bolts holding the rear cover on. While this is usually correct it in fact refers to how many bolts are used to mount the carrier or whatever. Matter of fact, if memory serves, don't C3s have only 8 bolts holding the cover on?
Anyway, which of the three categories do the pre '80 rear ends fall under?

None. The ring gear diameter doesn't match any of the 10-bolt cases (it's about an 8.25" ring gear) and is nowhere near the 12-bolt's 8.75." It's a complete orphan even as other orphan GM housings go. It's the case that the ring gear is bolted to. The housing is what the case bolts into. No 63-79 Corvette parts interchange with other GM rears.
