I mistakenly assumed it was part of the factory alarm. It is roughly the size of a pack of smokes and it has accepts a connector with two wires on it. One's a heavier gauge wire. Mine is disconnected.
Any ideas?

If it's the one on the right of the fuse panel then there should be some spade connectors on the back which plug into the fuse box. Mine was offset by one pin & when I put it in correctly the warning buzzer for lights on/ign. off & seat belts started working.
Might just pull it out again :D

Paul79,
What manual did you reference in your response above and where can I order one? I really need something like that for repairing my '76. The manual I have is pretty generic and lacks the detail to help much. I am looking for something that clearly illustrates the electrical and vacuum systems for my specific year.
Thanks.
Brian

Brian,
It is a Helm's manual. Very useful. http://www.helminc.com
PS-I checked Helm's. For some reason the 1976 manual is generic to Chevrolet passenger cars. Sorry for the bum steer. Perhaps 1976 owners can be of assistance.
