Default Anyone using and electric cooling system on a early c3??

I was wondering if anyone had been using an electric water pump and fan setup?? The problem i have seen so far is finding an electric fan that is adequate for over 300 HP according to specs from flex-a-lite.

I think you want to talk to smokedtires, he has an aluminum radiator with twin electric fans. I'm looking to do the same thing, so any input anyone has is greatly apreciated. ;) Going to be building up a small block 427 this summer to stick in my 74 :D

Chris - I can't swear how it's going to work out yet (not street or track tested), but I installed Spal dual 11" fans on a Griffin aluminum radiator for my ZZ502. Venders assure me the combination would handle 500 plus HP.

I've been thinking of how to install one of those separate electric motor drives on the stock water pump to turn the pump and fan. Racing only, not street use. Are you thinking of running an electric wp on the street?

74Vette, I've have for the past 2 years used twin Flex-a-lite fans with a "Be Cool" aluminum radiator with out any problems. Rod

I bought the fans from Carolina Rod Shop. They had the best price at the time.

You can order the radiator through JEGS or Summit Racing. For more info on Griffin, check out their webpage.

Good luck,

74Vette, I used the Flex-a-lite Electric Fans part #210. You do need to trim the plastic so they fit around the upper "A" arms.

I also have the dual flexi-lite set up on my 77. I installed it to the radiator then put the radiator in the car. I did not have to notch it, but I can see why red73 had to, Better to notch it . The 77 has a 2 row rad my 76 has a 3 row so red73 's rad must be slightly bigger (thicker) than stock 77. Cools just fine and very quite under hood. :)

You could check with Tom Dewitt, he is a supporting vendor of the forum, maybe he can set you up with something. www. http://www.dewitts.com/

I have a Griffin Nascar style aluminum radiator installed in my 74 with the Flex-a-Lite 210 fans. They have worked out great for me so far. The fans don't even come on on the highway & that's with 3.90 gears ;) .

Spals are suppose to be the best cooling fans but the Flex-a-Lites have worked for me so far. :)

The fans are easy, The electric water pump is a no no on the street, simply not enough flow to cool the poor car. Also there is no reason NOT to use the engine driven pump, it does exactly what it should, more flow at higher RPM. An electric has the same flow at all RPM so it has too much at low speeds and not enough at high speeds...

Flexalite fans do not move nearly as much air as the SPALS. Got mine for the ZZ/502 from Be Cool. Other vendors sell them, too.

BeCool with Spal fans here. Definitely quality pieces.

Here are also some links to the mounting and wiring diagrams.
