Just reading Normans post on his accident.

This is not ment as an insult if you are reading Norman, thats why I put it in a different topic.

Come on, it takes two seconds to do and don't give me the freaking excuse that its uncomfortable, thats crap.

I grew up with my seatbelt on and now it feels wierd if I don't have it on. I put it on to move my truck in the driveway!

And in a corvette? corvettes are for turning, you can't stay in your seat without a belt!

I assume some people grew up the other way. Didn't wear one so now it feels odd and isn't a habit.

It's the only way I can figure it out...

When I started driving, It was not a law to wear belts and I didn't. When it became a law it felt strange at first but now I'm like MikeC, I find myself putting it on just to pull the cars back in the driveway or into the garage. It really feels odd if it's not on.

Most do in this Province where it has been the law since 1973. I believe the % of drivers buckling up is around 94%. Some of the remaining 6% includes exclusions for medical reasons. On the other hand, something like 45% of fatal accidents involve individuals who were not buckled up. I really do not know why people do not use belts. Perhaps we shall hear from some.

In the Air Force, they check to make sure you have your belt on when you come on base, and being caught without it can mean loss of base driving privileges. Try walking to your building from the base gate :lol: . Ever since I was in the service, I feel naked without my seat belt. On my Vette, the shoulder retractor is broken, so for now all I can wear is the lap belt. That is the next thing on my list of stuff to fix. That metal steering wheel looks awfully close and awfully hard :eek: .

Around 1963 seat belts were just coming on the scene in a big way. I know the after market sellers were making kits that retro fits the older cars. It was a tough sell getting people to wear belts. Not all provinces up here required seat belt use. Saskatchewan I believe was one of the early ones to ticket you if you wern't wearing them. I lived in Manitoba then and driving cross country you were putting your seat belt on and off. Manitoba no, Saskatchewan yes ,Alberta no, B.C. yes ,it got to be a habit to but it on now I just do it while waiting for the glow plugs to warm up the old diesel. :)

When I bought my '67 in the fall of '66, didn't take much notice of a new safety feature.....collapsable steering columns.

Most people on this forum (due to their tender years) won't be aware of how many drivers (without seatbelts on) were found at the accident scene IMPALED on the steering column prior to 1967!!!!!!!

I have always worn them, mil brat and required on base so did it to keep dad out of hotseat. Anyway never wore shoulder belt when first came out since they were adj and wear, no movement, had wreck without them and banged up face, started wearing shoulder belt then and the ones now are a no-brainer. WEAR THEM, for every story of not wearing them and surviving there are thousands of survivers wearing them. Nuff said. :cheers:

I too grew up wearing my seatbelt. It is totally a habit for me to wear it!
I also always make anyone that is a passenger in my car wear one!

I grew up with my parents and my grandparents pounding it into my head to always wear a seatbelt. I feel naked without one. Lately I've started yelling at my dad when he's not wearing his. It makes me feel really uneasy if my passengers aren't in belts.

I don't know what its like elsewhere but in Canada If anyone in the car is not wearing a seat belt, the driver is responsible( fine and points) if they do not have a license or if the person does have a license they are responsible( fine and points)

I ran with a Vol. Ambulance Service for ten years and a Vol. Fire Co. for 20 yrs and I would say that 90% of the accidents I responded to involving DEATH, the deceased hadn't been wearing a seatbelt. Could it have saved their life ? I don't know but it sure would have made their odds better. I know after seeing all the blood,guts and brain matter I've seen, I wear my seatbelt. Hey if you won't wear it for yourself wear it for the poor guy that has to pick up the pieces you left behinde as your body slid down a highway or you took flight through a wooded area. Nothing ruins your day more than putting body parts in a body bag. Sorry to be so blunt but till you've had to do it, ya just don't know how it feels.

Here in Australia it's compulsory to wear seatbelts in every State. Passengers included. As in Canada, it's a fine and points for those caught not wearing one and yet they still do it......and die!

During holiday weekends, points can be doubled for certain traffic offences. Which in some circumstances where a driver and his passenger (not licenced) are both caught not wearing belts can result in the driver losing his licence on the spot!

It still astounds me to read in both this Forum and in some Corvette magazines where people seem to boast about being able to carry more than one passenger (often their own children) in their Vettes.
What does it take for these irresponsible clowns to get the point! Seat belts save lives...period!

Ok, I'm off my soap box now.....back to normal....whatever that is.

i use to help out my buddy and do some police towing for him and i saw way to many accident scenes where they werent wearing there belt(especially little kids),I wear my belt all the time now. :(
