Default Removing frt brake caliper: How to plug open line?

I purchased a pair of rebuilt sleeved calipers from "The Last Detail" here in Atlanta about six months ago. I have had problems on one getting the bleeder valve to stop leaking. I called them and they said to just bring it in and they would replace....WOW. Now that is customer service!! They have good prices and lots of GM parts for Corvettes. Anyway..is there a trick to plugging the open brake line to prevent my system from bleeding out?

Thanks!!

I use a rubber vacuum line cap. Holds itself in place.

You're right to plug the system, but the main reason is to keep air and moisture out while it's open. You really want to drain the system and get all the old fluid out. Also flush it to clean out any dirt/metal trash that may be in the system. The pistons wear and tiny particles contaminate the brake fluid. The new calipers will last longer and function better with new, clean fluid.

Just a suggestion.

Because of the volume of brake work that I do, I have a tool box filled with just brake tools. In it, there is a bag full of inverted flare fittings of all sizes, at least 4 of each. I use inverted flare plugs to seal female threads, and I use inverted flare couplers with an inverted flare plug in one end to secure open male lines. I buy these at "real" autoparts stores. May be a bit overkill for an occasional brake job, but I mentioned it as a tip in case you end up doing a lot of brake work. I have had to move vehicles around from bay to bay in the middle of a brake job, and the inverted flare fittings allowed me to drive the car instead of pushing it.

I carefully clamp off the brake hose using vice grips with a shop rag wrapped around the jaws. I clamp it off before loosening any lines.
