Anyone notice the new hotrod on the forum
This has to be one of the hottest looking rides around,
Sure, I know it's a Ford. But you gotta love that stance...
I would love to find one that I could afford.
Thanks X-OTIC
72 DeTomaso Pantera
See Mark, I told you noone would laugh...

By far the scariest ride I have ever taken in my life was as a passenger in a very highly modified Pantera around an autocross course with an expert driver !!
It took me about 3 minutes to get out of the car, and another 1/2 hours before I could even walk and see straight.
By far, the best handeling car I have ever been in !!

Always thought they were beautiful cars.
Growing up there was a local pizza place called Pantera's Pizza. The owner drove a Pantera, just to be appropriate. I used to love seeing that car.

I wouldn't mind a ride in her! But before I would go, I'd run down to the local grocery store. Go to the personal items isle and pick me up a bag of "Depends" for adult wetness protection. Think I would need it, and wouldn't want to be soiling the passenger seat and embarrassing myself (Well, more than I already do).
Oh, forgot to add: very

i'd love to have one, but between the house, snowmobile, GTO and of course the Vette, I'm funds limited. Plus, the wife says no more toys until I build another garage.....hmm. Might have to get started.

I think one could argue that this is ITALIAN - as in DeTomassa (sp?). ;) If you had said powered by Ford I would agree.
Just yanking your chain.

Neat cars, I had the pleasure of a test drive when I was 18 years old and that was back in 1979. I had a friend that would drive used cars to other car dealers and swap out for other cars. He called me up and said he had a couple of cars to swap. Well, one of them was a 1978 corvette and the other was a Pantera. We had to take the cars from Pensacola FL to Biloxie MS. About a 1 1/2 hr. ride straight down interstate 10. Man! that Pantera would scream . We would take turns driving each car. We got up to about 80 miles phr side by side, both hit the gas, no contest, Pantera was gone like a rocket!

That car is hot!
In 1970, a American V-8 powered and a 5 speeds overdrive capable of doing 150 Mph (I think). Well ahead of it's time.
But for 50 000$ to 70 000$ Can. i will have to pass my turn. I guess i'll just built up my engine with a tremec 5 speed.

A friend of mine had one a few years ago, it had a 427 Cobra Jet with 8, count 'em, 8 Webber carbs. That was the meanest car I have ever been in
Said it was good for 180 MPH !

Re: Anyone notice the new hotrod on the forum (Desertdawg)
Trivia! In Canada we have a chain of coffee/doughnut shops called Tim Horton's. They are everywhere and very successful. Tim Horton was a hockey player with the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres in the 1960s and early 1970s. When he was traded to Buffalo in 197? he demanded a Pantera as part of the deal. He got it. He also started the coffee shop chain. But he maintained a residence in Toronto. Late in 1974 he was returning from a game in Buffalo to Toronto on the local freeway (interstate) and "failed to negotiate a curve" in a 70mph zone while driving his Pantera at ~100mph. He died. His life insurance proceeds led to the creation/expansion of the Tim Horton's coffee shop empire of today. I think they are into the USA now. Just an asdie from the normal subjects ;) .

On return home from a road trip in 1983 I was on my Yoshimura powered Suzuki 1100 and had the golden oppurtunity to get thumped by a Pantera.I stayed with him to about 120 and then he was gone!
I am a drag boat guy now and really like the Pantera engine being right in there with the driver. You would get to here all the stuff going on in the engine He He!I too would like to have a Pantera..Do you have some motor pics for us?

That car is gourgous.
Besides being a corvette fan, now having owned three of them, I am also a 351 clevland fan. I own three clevland engines and I have the say they are the most powerful engines for there size. I have 1 in a 71 mach 1,1 in a 75 mustang 11 and a spare just in case. I have had them up to 8000 rpm in stock setuip and they havn't broke yet.
Don't knock it till you try it. :smash:
