quick advice needed before I order mufflers
I have been given the go ahead to order the pieces for the exhaust. I think the noise from the open headers finally got to my wife.
I am looking at:
1. moroso spiral tubes
2. dynomax bullets
3. any other suggestions???? Too loud? Better alternatives?
I am sticking with 2.5 inch pipe and am thinking about the Dr. Gas x-pipe.
Thanks,

Re: quick advice needed before I order mufflers (tworottiedogs)
Well the Targa Mufflers from Eckler's will muff the sound a little. They are fairly quite at idle, but sound almost like open headers at WOT. The best way I can describe it is the open header sound turned down a bit.
My 2 cents

I didn't see any Targa mufflers for a Vette before 1975. Has anybody tried the moroso spiral tubes? They look cool but I have never heard them and I don't like being the test dummy too much.

Two chambered Flowmasters are loud. Especially when on it. The smaller dimentions of the two chamber style make for a good fit. I like em. They are kinda loud though. Here I come...move the F outa my way....

I'm happy with my Dynomax superturbos. You must request a 2&1/2" inlet AND outlet, offset and centered. These are not the same Dynomax that are ready to fit on a Corvette. You will have to get 2&1/2" stainless from someone and have it bent a bit to get the pipes looking like the factory style.
Also have the Dr. Gas X pipe installed directly behind crossmember. Like it a lot. At 3000rpm it sounds like an Indy car somewhat.
Oh, just noticed you have a '71 (mine is a '69) so you might have to get the squared exhaust tips "massaged" a bit to get a true 2&1/2" outlet.
This combo gives you a rich, mellow and aggressive sound, but not too loud. I get a lot of complements on the sound of the exhaust at idle (sounds to me like what a musclecar is supposed to sound like). At cruise you can talk normally and at WOT it is very aggressive. A competent muffler shop can do this for you.
Good luck, Mark :flag :flag :chevy

I'm running the Moroso Spiral Cores and they are loud! But these are fed by 4" pipes, and I cut off the 3 1/2" inlet so it is a true 4" muffler w/ a 3 1/2" outlet. I'm not sure there *is* such a thing as a quiet 4" muffler! I imagine a 2 1/2" will be quieter, and 2 Spiral Cores in series quieter still.
Nice rotties. I have a big dumb male rottie, Zeus, thats been a part of the family for nearly 10 years.
Good luck,
Mark
