Default HOLD EVERYTHING...I think I found my MOTOR

Check this out...what do you think? I am guessing I will have hood clearance issues with this intake? I really want to keep my stock 350 hood. It is a good though... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...629775&r=0&t=0 :D

Clearly you did not hear of the woes of my ebay engine purchase did you?

Take my advice find a local shop and have them build it for you. I thought I was getting a great deal and saving almost 2k, however I ended up with the following:

A engine that had to be re built and heads that had to be replaced. The builder did not stagger my rings, had a crankshaft that was out of balance and turned 30/30 and unusable, which had to be replaced, and other stuff. The money I saved has been spent in having a local shop pull it and fix it along with additional funds, so in the end I could of bought a engine localy for the amount I spent.

Okay....I know it isn't orange but that is an easy fix.

I didn't know that your got ripped off 1976C3. sorry to hear that. Was it from the same engine shop? I have looked locally here in Glen Allen Virginia. All they have down here is SWEET TEA. Sorry confederate boys, Im a born Yankee from PA... 30 yrs running. I just moved for work.... BUT I OWN A VETTE.. :D . I am still considering my own rebuild, but 435HP for $2500 and a warranty...not bad.... not bad at all.

Heres the thing,... you do not know what your getting unless you tear into it. Now had the guy remembered to stagger all the rings and not miss 2 sets, I would not have had the slight smoking problem which prompted me to get a leakdown test run.

But he did, and as the shop tore the engine down to find the problem they found things like a **** poor 3 way valve job, not all cylenders honed evenly, and the overshaved crank.

You have to trust the person doing the machine work to do the job correctly, and as they say it was done. Dealing with an ebay engine builder your taking his word, maybe 8-10 engines will run fine enough to not reveal some poor machine work etc...

The old addage you get what you pay for applies here 100%, just consider the additional cost it will take if you get took in the deal. You have almost nill recourse and will have to pay to have it fixed or spend your own time fixing it, and in the end you saved nothing $$ wise.

You do as you want though it is your money, I just felt it was the decent thing to warn you.

The warranty is probablly one of those where, u ship it back to him he fixes it deal, if its clear a mechanical failure and he can not prove abuse. Then you have the pulling of the motor/shipping fee's to and from and putting it back in. A local shop can work the engine there and will most likely stand behind the engine mechanics also, if not abused.

Just a few things.
1. The heads and manifold in the description don't match the picture.

2. "Crane/Clevite 302/302H Hydrallic Flat-tappet High Performance Camshaft (Dur. @ .050": 246I/246E, Lift: .560"I/.560"E (w/1.6 ratio rocker arms), Lobe Seperation: 108...ROWDY BUT STREETABLE), Competition Products High Performance 360 Degree Hi-rise Single Plane Aluminum Intake Manifold (Victor Jr. Style)"

When he says streetable, he means barely with those specs. If you have an auto, probably plan on buying a 3000 rpm stall converter and anyway plan on swapping in at least 3.73 even 3.90 gears to take advantage of this kind of rpm range.

Email them and ask them to send you copy of the dyno results so you can see what the powerband looks like.

On the other hand, Chevy High Performance just did a short series on a $2400, 350 buildup. Started with an 87-91 block, Vortec heads, HOT roller cam (218/224 @ .050, .525/.525 lift). Results was over 400 ft-lbs of torque (about 4500 rpm if I remember) and 420 HP @ 5600 rpm. And 14" of vacuum at idle. This is the combo I would choose.

Uhm...The ad says the engine has "Crane/Clevite 302/302H Hydrallic Flat-tappet High Performance Camshaft (Dur. @ .050": 246I/246E, Lift: .560"I/.560"E (w/1.6 ratio rocker arms), Lobe Seperation: 108...ROWDY BUT STREETABLE)". I'm not a cam/rocker arm guru; but, with .560 lift and 1/6 ratio rocker arms wouldn't the valve covers need to be taller? The valve covers look like those cheap chrome plated covers you can buy at Kragen/Schucks/Checker.

Also, it's not a GM crate engine. Some guy named Mark put it together. You can get a real GM crate engine for the same amount of money.

I actually emailed some one who left marksperfengines bad feedback and this is what he had to say. This is not my opinion, or my experience, just what someone sent me via email.

His adds are all basicly the same looking, just some spec's changed for diff. add's. I have seen his adds alot, and had actually considered him whn getting my engine. There used to be 4 guys who did alot of engines on ebay now there are like 3 that more visiable, 1 being the guy I got screwed by and lost his ebay acct. and this guy.

Yup horsepower isn't cheap and we all know that. I sen a add for a 427 big block the other day for the same price as this engine. I passed on it even though the guy/shop was in the same state as me.

I am not knocking anyone who sells on ebay, more power to them, just saying that I will not go that route again! I feel comfortable knowing that the shop rebuilding my engine will do the job correctly, and if they dont? Well I am close enough to get some recourse, but if the co. was 6 states away I am kinda screwed.
