Default crooked center bezel

interesting how that center bezel above the wiper switch is allways crooked, down on the driver's side and upon the pass side...so the chrome don't line up with the dash top ....I took a torch to mine, and very carefully heated/bent it into position so it's straight.....seems to be a very common problem...as pictured in the other thread about .....what is this part???

Ya - that part irritates me every time I look at it. I was thinking of drilling a second countersunk screw hole for it. I hope Chevy fired that part designer!

Well believe it or not, BY THE MEASURE...for square and also racked...
the bezel is not the problem...but it's the bezel that needs heated and bent in order to fit right, no other solution lasts long....

Guys, just be careful if you monkey around with that bezel. I t is designed with a weak link about halfway up so as to collapse (break) in the event of any force applied to it(like in an accident) Bubba broke mine last time he tried to remove and replace some guages and was forcing it back up to align it with the dash. It is not a cheap part and the quality of some the reproductions is really poor.

Amen to that! And for '68, that bezel is one year only.

My bezel was crooked too, but I found that it was the A/C vent in the back which was causing it to be crooked.

We could do another poll; Who has an intact gauge bezel? Or instead of "How many silver 19xx 'Vettes had delux interior with power brakes, but not power steering..." we could do "How many 'Vettes have a functioning factory clock, no busted factory bezel, working wiper door, and don't need devine intervention to get the brakes (including the emergency brake) working right"
