This past spring replaced all calipers (with sleeved), pads, hoses, etc. System works real well except for the fact that even a short 5 mile drive, coats all 4 fenders with brake dust. My car is white and after the drive you can write your name in the dust, you can imagine what a 50 mile drive looks like. THe pads that came with the kit were organic, would going to semi-metalic give off less dust? Do others have the same problem? What type of pads do the rest of you guys use?

I have SS calipers and organic pads. They have been installed for about 10
years. My car is also white.
I do get a dust showing when I drive it. It's a dark dust, like you say
you can write your name after you drive for a while.

Since it does not build up on the inside of the wheels or trim rings, I
suspect it is rubber dust from the highway.

Also my pads don't look worn any more now than when they were installed.
If they were "wearing" at that rate to produce that much dust, you would
think they would be worn out by now.

Anybody else have any theories.

I have Muskegon Brake organic pads and there is no brake dust on my light beige car. You are picking up something from the road.

I got the same kit from Muskegon with the organic pads as well and no dust at all

I have semi-metallics and no dust at all and they stop very well

I think it is also from the tire rubber. I can wipe the areas behind my tires and get all kinds of black dust after driving.

Noticed exactly the same problem with mine 2 weeks back - black dust all over the rear of the fenders & also on the doors. Hope it's not brake dust as the pads won't last long if it is (a lot of the dust would be left on the road).
I thought it was just dirt off the road, which made me :mad as I'd only just finished a 2 day clean & polish before locking it away for the winter. Went for a quick drive & it got covered in black stuff :cuss It probably wouldn't be very noticeable on any other colour.

i read something on here about how on c3's there a sertain pockets of air that dont flow very well... the area's right behind the front wheels and the back bumper are what come to mind... you may just have dust on the road that gets stuck to your car.... i cant emagine how you would explain the wheel well as being "dust"

Questioning the dust is from the tiires, for it also gets all over the trim rings and the wheels (which are painted white to match). Also never had the problem before I replaced calipers and pads.
