My shark is just like a real shark (dual topic topic)
I noticed that my 68 (shark) is like a real shark!! You know how real sharks have to keep moving? My car runs nice and cool as long as it is moving, especially now that I have removed my front plate. If I sit and idle the temp guage will slowwwwwwwly creep higher.... even in cool weather, it slowly creeps up to that 210 mark at 12 oclock.... not sure if it would keep going, but once I start driving it moves right back down to the 180 area (figure it's the 185 thermostat kicking in there).
And speaking of sharks...... I bought myself an early Christmas present last weekend. See if you can guess which one I bought:
IS IT THIS???
OR THIS? (The wheels arent right!! :( )

You bought the one in the bottom pic... it's somewhat smaller than the one in the top pic... Do I win the prize?

Alwyn, I had same problem with mine, but it turned out to be some air trapped in the cooling system. If you jack up front end and fill again, I think it will remove air caught inside engine (something like that). I just know it worked for me, and I'm running cool  again. Good luck,

Definately the bottom one. Real question is - are you going to take TWO models and drive the Lexus to Carlisle or are you going to take the new model and the real corvette? :D :D

For Jack and Alwin, both sound to me like it is the fan clutch units. I had the similar problem until I changed the unit. I just have to get the 190 thermostat out and get a 160 in there

Re: My shark is just like a real shark (woodworkr)
Yeah, I agree with woodworkr,
If you can't keep your cool during periods of high speed (in c3 terms!) it may be the fan clutch. I've read somewhere that these clutches loose efficiency every year. The clutch is supposed to get firm when it is hot. Try and get the motor into operating temp a see if the clutch is loose - if so, it will need replacement.

I have found that "USUALLY" engine getting hot at hwy speeds is a radiator or fan problem. "USUALLY" getting hot at slow speeds is water pump related.

Alwyn678,
I had the same problem with mine,.....runs 180 standing still or parades.....however at speeds above 60 MPH it would climb up to 210 to 220.....I placed air dam over the top of my radiator and installed a thin aluminum sheet below. The aluminum sheet starts at the bottom of my front air scoop and bends up towards the radiator. Air flows through the large scoop on the front into the radiator gills....car runs 180 all the time. Thermostat is 180.
