Tach with an ''attitude''.
the tach on the 79 has been acting weird lately.
here's the problem....
(happens ONLY when I first start it up in the mornings)
it [/b]doesn't[/b] work!!!!
just sits there..the needle doesn't move or when it does just goes right over to the other side against the peg.
after about 10-15 minutes will start to work properly.
any suggestions on how to fix it?

more then likely the electronic tach board behind the tach itself. Quite an indepth job as most of the dash has to come out. But that should solve 90% of the tach problems

i had that happen on my car. i think it was the cable coming from the tranny. cheap to fix. but i am not quite sure that was it. my car had a lot of problems and i cant always remember how i fixed em or if they just went away. sorry. but i know i didnt do any electrical work to fix it.

In my 1980 the tach went nuts bouncing all over the place. It wound up being the alternator. It was overcharging which also destroyed the battery. I have no idea as to why it affected the tach though, but a new alternator fixed the tach. Roger L. Gibbons

My erratic tach needle problem turned out to be nothing more than a bad connection at the distributor. Take a look and make sure the connection is clean and makes good contact.

Hello Rose,
Hope you and Alchemist are doing well. I would be happy to stop by one day and take a look at your tach with you. I have done some repair to my tach already. Not to bad pulling it out of the dash. Sometimes the repair is simple, sometimes not. Whats next on your project list? By the way, what day(s) do they drag at the strip in Mooresville? I want to take my sons to a race. I think they will really enjoy it, and maybe you and the hubby could meet us there. Let me know what you think.
Regards,
Jim

Hey Jim73.
We are both doing fine...busier than one-armed paperhangers right now though!!
I am not sure about the drags but will check into it and let you know.
as to the tach.....not too worried about it right now..probably dust down in there..
with all the fiberglas work probably just needs a good cleaning.
Next stage of the ''Project'' is the flares...HOPEFULLY will get to that after the New Year.
Best you you and the family!:)
