Default I was going through my old boxes of magazines...

...a couple of nights ago. I found my original copy(given to me by a buddy) of the Sept. 1969 Car & Driver. This is the issue that has the test of the 69 435 horsepower 427 Vette. The article has been posted here by Superfast 80(I hope I got that right). 1/4 mile stats of 13.8 at 106.8 MPH with estimated top speed of 138 MPH w/ 3.70 gears.
I was way too young to ever guess I'd have a 69 w/ 427 but I'm sure the article had an influence on me! Other notes of interest-

The page after the Vette article has a full page ad for Gulf w/ a picture of 2 Ford GT40s taking 1st & 3rd at that years Le Mans.

There's also an article featuring a Dodge 440 Six Pack as if it's running moonshine, complete w/ pics of it all outta shape on some backroads.

On the final page of the mag is a pic of Jackie Stewart being bathed in champagne after winning his 4th race in 5 Grand Prix starts that season.

It's like being transported back in time!

I wish I had some of my old magazines. I probably had every Corvette road test Superfast80 has compiled. Life wasn't as complicated back then.

Nice sig pic Les.

Superfast has done an awesome job. BTW, you can still find the old mags on eBay. :)

What a coincidence! I was just going thru my old magazines also. I am throwing out all the Car and Drivers, except the ones that have a corvette on the cover. I am saving the one that reviews the 96 Grand Sport! My old magazines arent quite as old as yours! :) MJ

I HAVE the 1962 issue of "Hot Rod" where they test a white '62 Feulie 4-speed...it might even be mine! I HAD the issue testing the '61 Vette, but at one of the "Corvette Erie" July 4th week-end shows (1975-1989), I gave it to "Rod", a fellow beer-drinker (GAHD, I MISS those days) from Batavia, N.Y. who had a blue '61. Figured he could use it more than me. Hope he still has it (the Vette)!

Personal experience with 67 435 coupe I used to have, paid $2,200 for it in 71. Anyway, 13.3 @ 108 at Carlise dragway in Arkansas with G70/15 tires, close ration trans, 3.55 gears. Even got 15.5mpg at 75 on highway between Little Rock and Dallas. Wish I had it back. :cry But it was a gas to drive, and it was a dailey driver at that. :D :D

Les
the editors went on to say that with slicks, open exhaust and sharp tuning, they saw 283 61's go 110 mph.

my 355 61 should do 110-120

the reason they are so fast compared to newer vettes, is lighter weight, ad less power losses (no power acc. and 4 less U-joints to suck power)

i would gadly race a stock Z06 or ZR1, but i am not sure who would win, it would be close

I scrolled right past this before- thanks. The pic was taken during the summer at a forum get-together for pizza & beer. Good time w/ alot of Vettes there. Hope to do it again next year.
