Cost for replacing windshield???
Just cracked my windshield by accident...I am sooo pissed at myself. I was trying to remove the screw that holds the corner top moulding ('vert where top pins go through) and heard a little noise...looked down & #%$!
I just called a place I know does good work and they quoted $300 installed. Is this reasonable? I know resto glass alone is $500+ (then add shipping & labor) and I'm looking at $750+. Thats more than I want to spend so I guess I'll have to settle for aftermarket (which is what I think I have anyway). Is there one brand that is preferred over others?

You're paying for expertise and you should have no leaks when the job is done. The price seems fair, but prices vary across the country.

I just put in a PPG by myself. I wanted to do it so I would have time to clean the frame at my leisure. It was a little tricky getting the windsheild to the correct height above the frame so there was no gap between the window and the trim but other than that it was simple. Place I called that where willing to do it would have nothing to do with the trim. The weatherstrip and trim around the windsheild all has to come off. I am dropping off the top piece of trim to be straightened this afternoon (cheaper than a replacement).
good luck

Heads up.... I see you are living in Florida.. State law requires your insurance company to replace a damaged windshield at NO COST to you.. That's right.. FREE no deductable or any charge.

Just had mine replaced last week for a grand total of $0.
Living in FL has SOME perks!
Oh yeah, one more thing, the crack has to be in the driver's direct line of sight. I am sure yours is.

Looks like I jumped the gun guys!! Fellow Floridians...I was aware of the FLA replacement law but I just didn't think of it since the Corvette is not a daily driver. Now that I've taken the windshield out what do I do to get a freebie? Should I lay it back in the frame, put the trim back on and then take it to the glass place? I was not real careful taking it out so the line of vision thing is NO problem. :) Any ideas? Does it matter if I have a "collectors" type insurance.

Should not matter what type of insurance. Call your insurance agent, tell them it got cracked. They will ask you if you were able to identify the vehicle that caused it. Then they will ask you if you have someone you want to repair it, if you do, and they are on the insurance companies' list of vendors, you don't even have to put any money out first. They pay them directly.
In most cases there is no inspection, especially if the glass company is a preferred. I'd put it back in though, don't seal it, but lay it in.

I'm with silvervetteman here. I have full glass on all of my cars (about $15/year additional). If you have glass coverage on you policy just call the company and tell them that a truck spit up a rock and cracked your windshield. They never send an adjuster around, and there should be no deductable. My agent at Prudential, told me to go and find one that specializes in Corvettes and have it put in. He made that suggestion so it would be done right. It took over 3 hours to install my windshield. The guy cleaned out everything under the trim. You will not beleive what has to be removed to replace the glass.

Thanks for the advice & info guys!
JoeB...I took the glass out already and you're right it is time consuming to get all the old sealer and other gunk thats stuck to it. I decided to give the frame a total going over. It looks very good though...only surface rust.
Thanks....Mark
