SO... How do you remove a MUSHROOMED yoke from the differential???
It appears that the yokes in my diff. are mushroomed a bit. How do you remove them?
I'm trying a slide hammer right now. :smash:
I also need to know the specs for a complete yoke shaft for reference purposes.

A mechanic friend of mine grinds the mushroomed metal down so it can slide out. He's esentially ruining them to get them out but mushroomed stub shafts are pretty much unusable anyway.
PS: What measurements from the stub shafts do you need? I have mine out right now.

I agree, grind mushroom off or cut off. Trash and get new one.

Seriously, the slide hammer should do it. Or, use ablock of wood against the back side of the flange and drive it out that way. That metal mushroomed because it's so soft, so it will yield and allow the yoke to come out eventually.

I got 'em out!
My crappy little Taiwan slide hammer snapped in two so I used a tie rod end removal fork and hammer to strike the back side of the yoke flange. They came out pretty easily using that method.
Thanks for the suggestions.
(I still need some specs for measuring my yokes.)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I had .014 and .015 endplay respectively for the the two yokes with the snap rings installed.

don't trash your old yokes, the ends can be re-capped and there is a core charge.when my diff was rebuilt, the ends were so mushroomed they ruined the bearings coming out(driven out).i bought rebuilds from Bair's and sent in the old ones to be re-capped.
