Default Steam Cleaner for Engine Bay ?

Was my normal insomniac self the other night (:( ) and flipped to speedvision and there was an infomercial on (dang it!) Anyway it was for a small cleaner that uses slighlt pressurized steam to clean you oven/stove/fridge etc... I got thinking that this might be a good way to clean the engine bay. You could direct the steam exactly wheer you wanted it to go and on the commerical at least it took off some really oily nasty looking crud...

ANyone ever try this or do you have one?

Not yet. I have had pretty good results with simple green and cold water.

You have to keep watching the infomercials. There are 2 (at least) competing products on the market. Just after you watch the infomercial for the first one and you think its the greatest new invention since the wheel, you watch the next one that lists all the features the other one doesnt have!! It's american ingenuity at its best. You probably go out and buy both of em!! Wonder how the heck you managed to live this long without one of these things. You will steam everything in your house and garage, then never use it again!! :)

BTW..... has anyone ever sprayed that crap on their bald spot? Does it really work??? :) MJ

Hi...
I saw the same infomercial a few weeks ago and thought about the same thing. Only I was thinking of my frame. In 1971 I had the frame Ziebarted.
It did a great job of protecting the frame, however I now would like to
get it off. Cleaners just don't do it.
I think steam might me the best solution.

Anybody have any suggestions ?

Thanks
Barry

You guys crack me up!! :) :) OF COURSE you thought about steam cleaning your engine, undercarriage, frame, etc. when you saw that steam machine in action!! Same goes for any type of cleaning product infomercial. What are you supposed to do? Close your eyes and imagine how clean you can get your toilet??? and with no harsh chemicals too!! :troll

I seriously doubt you could steam off Ziebart. I think you would have to scrape it off or use a very harsh chemical. (sulphuric acid?). MJ
