Default How long will a TH350C last behind a ZZ4?

I'm planning on getting a ZZ4 within the next 6 months. (Yes...in every post I always say "When I get my ZZ4!") This time I mean it. So I was wondering how long a 350C tranny will last behind it. I won't be standing on it... ... ... all the time. :D I am planning on getting a 700R4 a few months after I get the ZZ4 and was wondering if I should wait to get the tranny to put the motor in or just put the ZZ4 in and drive it for about 3 months.

Thanks,
Matt

I'd always heard that the # in the tranny id represented the amount of HP it could take. TH350 being 350, TH400 being 400. That doesn't make much sense with the 700R4 though. :smash:

Matt.......My ZZ4 has been in for almost a year now with the TH350. I havent had any problems to date and belive me I have given it every reason to slip or die. The 700R4 is next on my wish list. Who are you getting the ZZ4 from. I went with http://www.greenwoodchevy.com and have been very happy with their service before and after the sale

I'm looking at Pace Parts right now. It looks like they're about $100 less than everybody else at $3395 for the longblock.

Matt - don't give up or apologize for just talking about getting a "Z"...I talked "crate" for a coupla years. One Sunday cruise @ a Chili's restaurant in '99, a buddy called me over to his '59 Vette, popped the hood, said "You've been talking about a crate engine since last year - and you talked me in to it. I just installed this 330 horse, and BELIEVE me, that's all the power you're gonna need...you're older than I am, probably slower than me, so a "ZZ4" will just getcha into trouble. Plus, it was only $2100 + $80 shipping from Pace (he neglected to tell me that it requires one of two special intake manifolds @ + $200 more)" I replied "You're right Jack...if I EVER Do get a "crate", I'll get the same thing". Two weeks later, I was reading the Pgh. Post Gazette parts & accessories want ads, and spotted "Brand New, in the crate, "ZZ4", $2500".
I'm an old coupon clipper, so I couldn't pass up the chance to save $700 (they were $3200 then). I called the guy; he had other projects to finish and needed cash. He delivered - about 50 or 60 miles - for $50. He gave me the sales slip from a dealership in his town where his buddy is the service manager, and it only cost him $2900. I'm glad I prognosticated & waited for the "Z" to find me...now, if only a '50 Olds "88" would come knocking on my door!
P.S. My buddy's '59 was NOT matching #'s when he bought it, so all you NCRS folks can quit biting your nails :D
