Well, today is the day for paint.
After working for 3 week ends and evening getting my 69 ready, I will be painting it today. Perfect weather here...high of 80 deg. low humidity. It was/is Lemans blue. The car only had one repaint that was old and of poor quality to start so it looked YUK. We only found one repair on the front right fender corer and that was repaired with the bumper on the car. However, the roof panels were from a different car but not the same different car. They both had 9 or 10 paint jobs on the and were a real PIA. I also filled six luggage rack holes 'cause I don't like them. I am using a product called Matrix system.. It is a single stage urethane color and a two part clear. I have never tried Matrix but have seen the finished product. Results pending :yesnod:

O.K. it is done. It looks pretty good. We just finished the clear coats and very little orange peel, a tiny bit of dirt in one roof panel(?) Now it will get 1200 wet sanded and buffed before I put everything back on. I can't wait 'till it's done. I took some pictures before and after.

You painted it in less than 12 hours?!?
I thought you had to wait for each layer to dry?

With color coat /clear coat system (Acrylic urethane), the clear MUST be put on within 6 hrs. of the color or the color must be sanded. With metalics, if you sand it and then apply clear, there is a good chance that the scratches will show under the clear. The Acrlyic urethanes also dry very quickly. The laquer type paints do require additional coats and take more time. BTW I would not reccomend trying this yourself unless you are set up to do it. These catalyzed paints can KILL you(not to mention a lot of dirt in the paint) if you don't have the proper masks and ventilation. Dirt in the paint woul not be a problem if you are dead!! A home paint job can be real good but only if you know what you are doing. :blueangel: :(
