Default Those of you that restored......

.....your C3, did you go back to numbers matching (NCRS kinda thing), or did you just get it back running. One of my best buds almost has his '75 done. He is just getting it nice and running again. He put a different 350 in it, replaced the tranny, did a frame off basically. He also got a VERY not factory blue paint job on it. I should get some pics next season.

I did a frame off but it's not NCRS quality work, the car is #s matching though.
It's just going to be my cruisemobil. :D

I have not totally restored my 70 but I am working on replacing things that need it. And when necessary I am making those replaced things as good as or better than as found. I just refinished my console and gauge cluster. Looks pretty good I must say. :p:

I bought mine to modify. I purposely look for a vette that wasn't matching numbers so I had no guilt when I modified her.

I'm just trying to make a nice driver. Keeping close to original, but not not worrying about the dates.

I went stock int and ext but it is a hot rod, faster then an L-88 and much better then when it was new. I wanted a new C-3 so the only way is to do it your self. I ended up with about $30000.00 + in it but $ for speed it is faster then Vipers and C-5s and about anything else out there for less money.

I went with a performance mind as I have been redoing mine. It will look factory except for the sidepipes and that is where it stops. Put a set of 80 seats in it and a new bezel for the overdrive and everything else is stock 78 on the outside and in the interior. Beauty is only skin deep though. Under the body is all muscle and new technology for the suspension and drivetrain. Going to have a blast driving it now....

I will do my frame off resto to improve the car and make it last for the rest of my life!
I dont wanna touch this thing again for any major reason!
When its now done, its done and will be kept!

Bottom line!!!

I guess I'm one of the few NCRS types here. Car will be judged this coming summer. Everything was there originality and numbers wise, so there really wasn't much work aside from making it look pretty.

I have a 69 Coupe, I've started a frame off. I'm going to upgrade Everything!!
I have a rebuilt 5.7 TPI engine with 300 miles on it, with the 4 speed auto tranny. It currently resides in my 87 GTA, I'm breaking it in properly 'till I'm ready for the transplant.
I'm gonna upgrade everything!!!

I too go the NCRS route. I look at my cars as an investment. If you look at the price guides and at the cars that bring the big bucks, they are all origional restored or origional low mileags unrestored cars! You want to kill the value of a ???70 corvette, put a 502 in it and try to get #1 or #2 money for it. You will have to subtract the cost of putting the origional engine in the car. Same goes for paint. Thad :blueangel:

Originality???? The last thing that my car will be is an investment! I want a C3 that drives and looks like she was built in the late 90's! I'm shooting for a complete show car that can be driven when the sun's out and the roads are dry. Also, all of the current creature comforts are a must for me; TPI, AC, PS, PB, PW, PL, C5 power seats, multi CD/stereo and cup holders d@@mn it!!! I want a shaved/sleek C3 void of trim and seams with flares on all four corners and 17" wheels 9.5" up front and 13" in the rear.

Now that sounds like a car :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

As my wife read my reply, she sighed very loud. . . Sounded like an approval to me!!! :D :D

My next project will be a NCRS because I think it will be fun doing the homework and looking for parts. But I will never kid myself that it is an investment I know guys that got C-2 BBs 20 years ago for $20,000.00 that are worth 40 to 50 now. But the same $20,000.00 even at 7% would be worth $80,000.00 + today. Around hear there are two kind of corvette owners the NCRS guy that go to all the clubs don"t think much of any corvette that is not stock. Then there are the hot rod guy that like to try new things. So I hang out with other car clubs. By the way once you have had big HP and been fast it is hare to go back also I dont want to get beat by any mustang or any outher new car. John

Really sharp car, if those wheels are temporary, I would be interested in them!
Let me know when you switch.

I said my next car, this car is to far away from stock. It will take another year to get this car in full show shape then it will be put away for most of the time. Now that I got back into cars I cant see myself every not have a project and when you put this much work into one I dont think I could ever part with it. John

Not really NCRS but certainly not custom, although the next one will be. I tried to make it as close to original as possible while upgrading a few things in the process for reliability and looks.

slightly custom but still mostly gm, maybe not numbers matching, but still a vette with lots a gm parts

even if that means a 502 under the hood and c5 seats, and so on
