c4 wanted to race...
last summer i was out with my nephew in my 73BB..i noticed a c4 ragtop ahead but did not think much about it. when i came to the light i looked over and saw a young kid about 21 or so with a buddy.i nodded at him then the light changed.as i was coming to the light my nephew wanted to race him,(he was16) and i explained to him that a vette is a vette and we do not race each other for a kill.apparently the punk in the c4 needs to learn some manners. when the light changed i started off slow but he punched it. i coul not believe it...anyone else have a problem like this???

I don't think that C4 would be any competition for you. I do however, think the "kid" should have had a bit more respect for you and your car.

I have this problem with ricers and mustang. I always shut them down at the track. It's been such a problem on the street that I either ignore them or challenge them to race for money at the local drag strip. I not going to risk a ticket over snot nose kid that think they have a fast car.

Is that a long style L88 hood on your '69 'Vette? Did you do away with the wiper door? By the way, I must say that I love your 'Vette :yesnod:

I love racing Vettes; it means more to me to beat another Vette than a ricer or mustang. The other day I beat a ZR1 at the track, only to find out later he forgot to disable his traction control. I still beat him! A Z06 also recently blew me away. It only means he has a faster Vette. It has nothing to do with respect.

I can't recall racing another vette that I didn't know, racing vettes I know is a different story, but it's all in good fun and it gives the loser something to shoot for next time and thereby escalates the horsepower race which means more calls to Jeg's or Summit which helps the economy. So racing your buddies vettes is good for a healthy American economy :jester :flag

I've had this happen too. Personally I would have run 'em too. But not with your nephew in the car - the guy has to realize that you can't be racing with kids in the car.

I dont know if it is the L-88 hood my loud ex. or my cam lope or everyone in KC are afraid to street race. But the only one to try to street race was a 20-25 year old in a 68 shelby. We played around but didnt race. I told him I dont street race at least not at 6:30 pm but I love to go to the track. Hope the weather holds for onr more day track open tomorrow 12 to 4

Funny thing is, I had just the opposite happen to me one time. I was driving along and happened to come up next to an older guy in a C4 (I was 25, he was late 30's). We ended up next to each other at a light and I didn't want to be thought of as "that punk kid" so I take off nice and easy when the light changed. He punched it. Wish I would have known, I would have punched it too. I don't see it as disrespect, I see it as friendly competition.
I was at the dragstrip one night and there was a guy with an 82 running 9.3x (1/8 mile). It was my first time there and it was test & tune so we lined up a few times. He beat me 3 out of 4 (I was running 9.5x). The fourth run, his car was a bit on the warm side and his time slowed down. I beat him by .02 and can't tell you how happy I was. Now he's running 9.2x and I'm running 9.3x, we both have a lot of fun, never any lack of respect.

i think racing each other at a track or someone on the street that is a friend is healthy competition..don't get me wrong.but i think going for a kill should be saved for ricers and stangs..not each other in the format of the street..
