Default Aluminum Heads or Not?

I have a 383 stroker with Edlbrock Performer RPM intake, Edlbrock 750 electric choke carb, Vortec heads, GM performance cam, headers, dual exhaust, MSD, flowmasters, etc...
It runs strong but I want more.
What heads and cam would give me the best performance?
Thanks for all opinions.

My 2 cents.

For heads I would look at Air Flow research They're 190's or 195's would be a good choose for you here is a link to the heads http://www.airflowresearch.com/chev190.html http://www.airflowresearch.com/chev195.html
For a cam I would look to Comp Cams Extreme Energy the 262 or 268 grind would be a good chose for you.

I went with RPM heads to match my rpm cam and intake...
I have desktop dyno specs on my site....
good luck on your decision...

For my 355 rebuild I have the XE 262 with AFR 180 heads. Some might suggest that with a 383 you might be able to handle more cam and possibly heads too. I'll leave that up to the experts tho.

Are you sure that you are getting all of the available power out of your current setup?
Do you have any current numbers to share such as dyno, ET's, or even G-Tech stuff? Or is this need for more speed based off of the butt dyno (seat of the pants feel)?

Either way, if your offering up a blank check, I would go with AFR heads along with a full roller valve train with consideration given to solid lift vs. hydraulic.

yes the AFR190 would be a good choice...a bit more cam. It'll give you more power but in a higher RPM range.

True a bigger cam will give you more power at a higher RPM, but at the sacrifice of lower end torque. With a 383 low end torque is not a problem, but it is also not good to raise your hp peak higher then your red line. So the real question is how far are you planing on reving the engine? 6000? 7000? 7500? Knowing your redline would greatly help on a cam suggestion. Because it would not be good to rec. a cam that’s going to float the values before your redline. :nono:

From a Hot Rod magazine "cheap" build up of a 383.

they're best dyno tested combo was this:
Trick flow 23 degree aluminum 2.20/1.60 heads
Crane cams .516/.525 lift 244/252 duration cam ( a bit much for a auto car -- their words)
this combo on a 383 with 800 CFM carb, ran 421.4 HP at 5400 RPM, 448 TQ at 4300 RPM.

When they tested with Vortec heads they got 396 HP at 5500 RPM, 440 TQ at 4200 RPM.

So the heads were worth about 25 HP
