Default Popping/groaning in rear when turning low speed corners

My 72 BB roadster had been setting up for the last 4 years when I purchased it last month. I finally got it to where I could drive it this weekend. I suspect the popping and groaning is the posi-tract unit. Supposedly it was re-sealed 4 years ago by Corvette Techniques in Houston, but I question if they put in the correct lubricant. Have others run into similar problems, and what success did you have. Both trailing assemblies were rebuilt at the same time also.

Go to GM dealer and buy their posi additive.

That should take care of the problem.

It's surprising how many shops forget to install the additive. You can buy it for less than 10-bucks from GM. I thought my rear-end was shot until I put in a bottle. Quiet as a mouse now for three years.

find an empty parking lot and throw the car around in tight circles.go as fast as you can.first one way and then the other, this forces the posi-plates apart and slings lubricate between the plates.if this doesn't quiet things down then buy some GM "whale oil" and put it in the diff.my car will do this after sitting thru the winter months,so i head down to the church parking lot and go round and round,i usually get pretty dizzy doing this, but it always works.

Thanks guys,

I pulled the fluid out of the differential today, added new lubricant and the replacement additive for "whale oil". Definitely helped. No popping when cold, but still does some after being on the highway for 20 miles or so. But it is many times better. I will take it to a parking lot later after being on the highway and see it that helps to.
