Default Need help (6 or 7 qt oil pans)

I'm considering changing the oil pan out when I install the 700r4. My main reason is because of a leaking rear main. I currently have a chrome 5 qt pan and I am thinking about installing one of those cool 7 qt chrome pans. Any benefits to adding this? I'm also installing a one piece gasket and stud, no more screwing with that gasket on the front and back.

I have a 7 qt chevy orange pan. Besides looking cool your oil will run cooler and if you choose you can run a high volume pump. Make sure what ever you buy has a trap door baffle.

Any clearance problems?
I've got the Moroso 7qt pan on mine. I only had problems with speed bumps while running 265/50-15 in the front. If I went over them at a very slow speed to prevent bouncing, then it was not a problem. Since I switched to 255/60's, clearnace has not been a problem at all. Be sure to use the recommended oil pump pick-up for whatever pan you buy. Keep in mind that there are several 7 qt pans out there. There is the deep sump style and the "kicked out" style. Mine is the kicked out style. It is only 8-1/4 deep but gets wider at the bottom of the pan. This is what you will need. While you're at it, get the rear baffle that goes between the oil pump and main cap. It prevents the oil from creeping up the rear of the pan under hard acceleration.
