Help Oil Leak
I have a 68 327/300 coupe. I have had a small oil leak at the oil pan. I replaced the gasket and no luck. I was told by a mechanic I needed another pan. I replaced the pan with a 68 327/300 pan. It still leaks. I then tried a thicker gasket and it still leaks. This thing is driving me crazy. Could there be a problem with the case? Is there a trick out there to use to help solve this problem? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Get a felpro one piece gasket. If it is the rear main seal though, that will not stop it (alone). Can you tell where it is coming from?

Re: Help Oil Leak (hpr68)
GRAVITY MAKES IT HARDER TO REALLY TELL WHERE THE LEAK IS COMING FROM IN THE GENERAL AREA OF THE OIL PAN. OIL FROM THE ENGINE REAR SEAL, OIL PAN, OR EVEN THE OIL PLUG ITSELF TEND TO ALL GO TO THE SAME AREA BEFORE THEY DRIP. AT THE REAR OF THE OIL PAN. FIRST, CHECK THE OIL PLUG ITSELF: WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU CHANGED THAT LITTLE WASHER THAT ACTS LIKE A GASKET ON THE OIL PLUG. SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE REALLY SEALED THE OIL PAN ITSELF. SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD BE THE ENGINE REAR MAIN SEAL
LAST THING: ARE YOU SURE THERE ARE NO CRACKS IN THE OIL PAN ITSELF

Re: Help Oil Leak (hpr68)
I had similar leak couple of years back on my '68 327. Culprit was the rear main seal. Seeing you changed the pan/gasket...and still have the problem, I suspect this is what the problem is.

Check the oil pressure line fitting on top of the block. I had a similar problem. It appeared as though the oil pan was leaking when it fact it was oil from the pressure line that worked its way down to the drain plug.

You probably already know this, but make sure you have the right gasket.
Pre '74. I believe it uses a thinner front pan seal.
Good luck

Re: Help Oil Leak (71coupe)
Just to clarify the above statement, it's the front pan seal that differs between '74 and '75/later. The '74 and earlier pans use a front seal that's something like .22" thick (in th middle) and the '75/later pans use a front seal that's about .4" thick.

Re: Help Oil Leak (hpr68)
I went by the garage and checked the rear seal, it unfortunately is fine. My mechanic says the oil pan is warped. This is the second pan I have tried to use and no luck. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement pan that will work. Evidently there is something special about a 68 327/300 horse pan. It has been discontinued and I don't know of any replacement. My mechanic swears it is the pan. Any help would be appreciated.
