Default Are the "Leather-Like" Seat Coverings any good?

Are the "Leather-Like" covers any good? They sure seem like a bargain over the leather covers.

Does anyone have any experience on these coverings that I might benefit from?

Thanks

They're ok. My budget was almost empty, so I bought "Leather-Like" seat coverings. If you can afford it, real leather is the way to go. If you purchase some seat cover make sure you buy new foam. This will really make a difference. Another thing ,cut out the old lumbar portion of the old foam and place it behind the lumbar on the new foam. It will give much better support and comfort.

When I bought my Vette last spring, the previous owner threw in a pair of "leather-like" seats and seat foam. The original seats were worn and in need of replacement. I really wanted to do it right, so I spent $350 for the replacement leather and I'm glad I did. There is a noticible difference in the way they feel. Leather-like doesn't smell like leather, they smell like vinyl. The seats are white and there is a difference in color, too. The leather-like are a bright white and the real thing is an off-white - much more subtle.

By the way, if anyone is interested in a pair of white leather-like seats for a '76-77, let me know. I'll sell them CHEAP.

Steve, I bought a set of the pre-installed "Leather-Like" cushions for my '79 from Corvette America about three years ago. They look great and are wearing nicely. Hard to tell the difference until you get REAL close, but even then the look nice. I have no complaints and it cost me about half of the cost for leather. All I had to do was snap them into place in the seat frames. Thumbs up from me! Check your e-mail for a photo of the seats!

They look good for the price and I am satisfied. If you are installing them your self, you can save a large percentage in the purchase price.
But if you are also paying to have them installed some where, the total cost is not that much greater to have the leather.

JE68,

I ordered my leather seats from Zip Products. I linked to them from the Corvette Forum.

I have installed leather like covers on several Vettes. Can't beat them for the money. $135 and looked great, and they want crack like leather.

Wow, thanks everyone for the replies! I think I'm going to ask for the leather-like covers. I'm not concerned with passing them off as leather seats, I just want the look of the leather pattern with the durability of the vinyl. Quick question, where and what is Wilcox? I assume they are supplying Corvette America with the seats. Do you have the contact info for them? The cheapest we've found so far is through Corvette America for $179.

Thanks

Looks like a great deal, but is the leather as durable as the vinyl?

From what I've seen so far, I think I'll go with the leather-like when the time comes. Thanks for the input.
