Removing Scratches from door glass
I have very badly scratched door glass, you can feel them with your nail. I have taken them out of the car and have been to glass manufactures to see if they can polish them out for me. The problem is that they will not take the risk in case they break them. Do the astro ventilation door glass in a 1970 have a hardend skin that would ruin the glass if it was polished away to remove the scratches? I will take the risk of them breaking if anyone has had any success in removing scatches and would like to know how the did it. Corvette door glass ain't cheap in the UK so any help would be great.

Mark,
Forget door glass - have you seen the price of windshield glass?
I've got the same problem & your post has made me do something about it at last. My GF's brother-in-law used to be a manager at AutoGlass & said something about them polishing scratches out. I'll email him & if I get a positive response, I'll let you know (they usually just replace the glass, as the cost price for most cars these days is unbelievably cheap).

How's the re-spray getting along?

Check your windshield glass vs. the other windows (read what its says in the corner). One is laminated, the other is tempered but I don't recall which is which. Minor scratches can be polished out of the laminated glass but not the tempered glass.

Eastwood has a glass polishing do-it-yourself kit. Check it out. If the scratches are deep enough to feel with your nail tho, when it is polished out, there will be visible distortion in you vision when looking through it.
good luck

Normally the front glass is layered to keep the glass from coming in on the driver or the driver from going through. The side glass is tempered and will break into a million pieces. This is why they probably will not polish the side glass. Too much heat and this thing would probably explode into millions of little pieces.
I was going into the grocery store one morning and watched a woman step off the curb onto the pavement and small pebbles were all over the pavement. One of these pebbles flew into her side window and it just exploded into the car. Nasty mess to clean up.

Don't bother sending away for the glass polishing kit. Just use a mild "cut & polish" or cutting compound. That's what most of the glass guys use anyway. If you can catch it with your nail, you won't get it out. I'm about to do my windscreen again.

In previous inquiry's into this topic. The concensus was to use generous amounts of Bonami or use the window polishing kit for small scratches. I have both in the garage but have yet to try either. Other tasks take priority. The larger ones(that you can dig a finger nail into) may be hopeless.:( I have some of each.

Re: Removing Scratches from door glass (trw)
Thanks for the info,
Looks like I may have to replace them because the scratches are deep I don't think I will have much luck, though I may try since I have nothing to loose.
Re-spray next week Paul then you will have to tell me how to post pics.

Do not bother with the Eastwood or any other glass scratch remover kits. They will only work on the windshield, not side or rear tempered glass. I have tried to remove scratches from side and rear glass and no progress was made.
