10 sec or less c3's??
hey
just wondering if anyone has or knows someone who has posted 10's or better in the 1/4 mile with a C3 WITH the IRS. i've seen a couple C3's in the 9's, but that's been with ford 9" solid rears (not really corvettes anymore!!)
i checked out the perf reg, and so far the fastest c3 there is running 11's, and i've haven't had much luck searching the web.
i'm sure there has to be someone running those times, but, will they tell??
:chevy

Here's one. I've been trying to model my car after this. It's all i've ever wanted. It has the stock IRS but with Toms Differentials components. This car went 10.26@129mph.

that's sharp. wonder where he dropped all that weight from.
i'm suprised it's only a long rod 350. that's what i had ('cept for cam and comp). the best i could get was 13.2 at 107.

Like I said, that car is all i've ever wanted. I'm trying so hard to make mine like it that I find myself going to that sight every single day. And it's not some hacked up dragmobile either. It looks fairly streetable and it's even got an interior to boot. No nitrous or big cubes, just lot's of horsepower. My rough calculations suggest that it makes somewhere between 500-530 hp. That's how you get a 2700lb Corvette to go 10's. I'm tryin...

Sure....
Zora did it!

Didn't the automatic trans prototype do something like 10.89?
I also remember a 67 in Car Craft or Hotrod about 10 years ago that was going that fast with the GM IRS. The ability to do that and not blow it up was one of the focal points of the article. Probably have it somewhere...

I too would like to know how he got he car down to 2700 lbs...it must be completely gutted to come close to that figure. As far as running a different rear end, most sanctioning bodies require the IRS to be removed if you run faster than 10.99 seconds AND you have to ADD around 150 more lbs. of a full roll cage. Deen

yeah, getting it down to 2700 seems to be the mystery. i haven't weighed mine yet, but so far i have removed the complete A/C system, heater core, and venitilation ducts, and have put on a lightweight hood. all that MAYBE dropped about 100 lbs. i have some other ideas about making the fat whale into a lean shark, but i'd still like to know this guy's secret.

I'm getting close to 10's...just didn't make it to the track this year.
Next year for sure...might go with a bigger cam though.

Its definitely a kool car...not sure if I would call a spool & electric water pump and that converter(flashes 5,300 rpm on foot brake)
streetable though ;)
Probably good for street racing!

No, you're right. I agree. Spools and electric water pumps are generally found at the track but this car is different. It doesn't have 32" slicks, or a big block, or a gutted interior, or a modified body, or 6.14 gears...the list goes on. I think he only did what was necessary to make the car go as fast as it does. Aside from the spool, I wouldn't be afraid to drive it to the local burger joint or car show. Heck, i'd probably take it to the grocery store just to say that I did!
