Killed the Horn on my 89
Hello,
I don't know what happened this time. Over the summer the horns got progressively quieter. Then in September the right side stopped working completely. Last week I went and ordered a new set of horns thinking that they were just old and dying. Went to go install them last night,... heard a very low pop sound and then nothing.... neither horns would work, new or old. Got out the DVOM... Neither green or black wire is showing any voltage. If I ground the black wire on the DVOM and touch my other dVOM contact to +12V, It shows +12V on the DVOM meaning that the black wire is grounding. If I connect my DVOM to the green wire and then the other lead of the DVOM to the battery it shows +9.6V?????
I think I need a few ideas and a wiring diagram...
Dan

Wheres the relay located?
I know from experience when it comes to blower motor relays that sometimes the contacts corrode and resistance builds up causing the motor not to run as fast as it normally would. In this case I might of burned the contacts up on the relay or something.
Are their any other inline fuses or fusible links for the horns?

Here's the schematic for the horns.
If you press the horn button on the steering wheel you should hear the horn relay click.
If you set the factory alarm off, the horn relay should click about once a second.
Disconnect the plug at one of the horns and you should measure 12 volts at the plug pulsing on and off as the relay opens and closes.
If you disconnect the plug at the horn with your ohm meter you should measure a couple of ohms across the two pin connector at the horn.
High resistance indicates the contacts inside the horn need cleaning which requires you drill or grind 6 rivets. Open the horn housing and clean the contacts. You can reassembly the horn housing using 1.25 inch long x 8/32 inch bolts. (qty. six for each horn)

Mine suffers from the door lock alarm thing. I had to unplug the fuse, thus keeping me from using my horns now. Whoever designed it that way needs a punch in the face and a KITB.

My girlfriends out with the car today, gave her a call. No clicking in or out of the car... relay is the first thing I am going to examine.
Thanks again Hooked,
