Default C1 Best Performing and sounding mufflers

I want to put a new exhaust and mufflers on my '61. What are the best performing and sounding mufflers. Loud is not a problem with me. Please chime in. Thanks

I use the round off road mufflers and it puts a smile on my face every time I start her up. No harsh popping when deaccelerating, sweat sound when accelerating.
The best part is my wife dosn't complain about the mellow sound!

The Borla muffs have the best flow/least backpressure. Google it, you will find some comparisons. They are also quiter at lower engine RPM than many.

I put the facory style round off-road muffs on. I love them. They sound great, but when you get the RPM up, they really sing.

Tennico has Walker manufacturing and the Thrush Muffler is Walkers Hollywood muffler and affectionately referred to as the "The Woody".

Type 'Thrush Muffler' and you can find them.

For sound, you can still get the original "Smithy's" glasspacks that made chopped Mercs sound cool.

For performance, Corvair Turbos or the many copies available look stock on the outside, are not obnoxiously loud but quite free-flowing.

Thrush (Tenneco bought it in Oct. 1992) has 2 types of mufflers now: California Boss Turbos, & glasspacks. The chambered Turbo Tubes went by the wayside (a bean counter decision) around 2000. Boss Turbos are cheapie, small internal flow tube, no packing, economy mufflers that sound "flat."

Don't know what "The Woody" is unless it's something brand new!

When I was there, Tenneco wouldn't even dare mention Thrush at trade shows. They just wanted to kill the whole Thrush thing. I never could figure-out why Tenneco bought Thrush.

BTW, the '61 Vette in the Youtube sounds just like McQueen's "Bullitt" 390 Mustang GT. Sounds SWEET. I know where to get that sound................

I do too but I can't afford the Bullet GT - rumor is a private owner has it under wraps and McQueen insisted it retain all the scratches and dents it received in the movie.

I like the sound my C1 currently has - you can hear the original Wonderbar radio at interstate speeds (barely) if you turn it up - and yet its got an impressive throaty note on hard take offs but idles with enough menace you know its the 'real deal'.
