Painting motion stripes over BC\CC. Also can someone photoshop something for me?
Well thanks to mllarson for posting pics of his Vette and seeing the color of Bullsharks car I want to add some motion stripes to my car. Problem is the car has been painted with PPG BC\CC about 2 years ago so how do I go about adding these stripes over already existing BC\CC and not have a sharp edge? What color would I need to paint the stripes first so that the black underneath doesn't darken the burgundy? The hood is no big deal as I have not painted it yet but the rear is a different story.
Also,
Can anyone photoshop my Vette with The motion stripes on mllarson's Vette with the stripes being the burgundy of Bullsharks? Here are pics of all three. Thanks I stink at photoshop.....

Mine Could someone photoshop the stripes onto my car with the color of Bullsharks?

Dont worry about painting over the older base coat clear coat paint job.As long as the area is clean of all contaminants and wet sanded first you can go right over it.As far as the sharp line you got two options. The one I reccomend is that right after you are done clearing the panel, before the paint gets really tacky, peel off the fine line tape and the clear will flow out and be smooth on the edges.Wet sand, buff and you will have a smooth transition. The other option is to re clear entire panel after base coat application to bury the stripes.

Road-Race Vette,
thanks for the info! Essentially what I want to do is
1. Mask off the stripe and the rear panel.
2. Wet sand the stripe and rear panel area? What grit?
3. Wipe down with a good degreaser silicone and wax remover like DX330 I beleive.
4. Shoot a lighter color BC first to cover some of the Black?
5. Shoot the red base.
6. Shoot clear.
7. Remove tape ASAP and allow clear to flow.
8. Wet sand and buff out.
Sound right?
Thanks

There are a variety of different Motion stripe sizes, I spent a Saturday with 1 / 4 inch pinstripe and blue masking tape until I was happy with the sizing, then measured everything out for my painter, who then duplicated it.
You don't see many convertibles with Motion scheme, it should look cool!

Wade, be aware, that pic was taken near dusk up at the Kansas speedway, so that metallic color takes on different hues based on sunlight.
Here is a pic of it next to Eddie70's car

Yeah I looked for a better pic but didn't have one here at work. Might hit you up again if I have a better angle shot at home.

Correct.
you can use 600 to 800 grit on your existing paint .
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT break through the clear to the old base coat!!!!!! Basecoat can be very aggresive and if the new basecoat comes in contact with the old ,especially if you appy the basecoat on the "wet" side(heavier coats)it might lift. Here is one we just did
