easiest hp upgrades for my 1980L-82new(blower question)
WHAT WOULD BE THE EASIEST UPGRADES TO DO ON MY 1980L-82 FOR EXTRA HORSEPOWER...the engine is all stock exept for an electric fuel pump..money is a factor also so i would like to find some upgrades that wouldnt be to expensive and that i could do myself..this is an automatic..
I FOUND A B&M FUEL INJECTED(SUPERDUCTION)BLOWER FOR SMALL BLOCK CHEVYS OFF OF ANOTHER 350 ON EBAY..what kind of extra hp would that give me and how hard to install?

Easiest, least expensive. If possible, dump the 2-1-2 exhaust and cats. If you can, go true duals no cats.

Yes, Duals then intake and headers and performance carb.
Then cam and heads etc. etc. etc. you get the idea :D

Re: easiest hp upgrades for my 1980L-82 (MotorHead)
well once you get down to the intake then you might as well do the other things too!!
   :yesnod: :yesnod:
then you find you have almost a whole new engine......
im sorry i didnt change my cam and lifters out when i had the intake off....
i dont have any plans to do it anytime soon!!.....

Purchase one of those "KwikCurve" distributer recurve kits from Lars. It only costs $39
I posted a review about my experience with it http://www.corvetteforum.cc/reviews/...=426&TopicID=2
After you get your ignition timing squared away learn how to tweak you carburetor for peak performance. I recommend the book "Rochester Carburetors" written by Doug Roe. $8 to $13 www.amazon.com
Those two areas yield the best "bang for the buck". Other than these two areas it seems to me like the amount of money spent vs. HP return goes exponentially out of wack but certainly still worth the effort!
Enjoy!:seeya

Re: easiest hp upgrades for my 1980L-82 (MIKER)
Miker, GOOD ANSWER.
Add to that a cat gut & K&N filter for another $35.
The L82 got enough cam & intake to keep you happy for awhile. Save up for heads & exhaust as future projects.

Razz -- cheapest and easiest is to keep what you've got and keep it tuned.

Re: easiest hp upgrades for my 1980L-82 (Easy Mike)
some ideas...
-exhaust is the major restriction -go dual with headers (no cats is possible)
-tweak carb+distrib
-then intake....let it breathe...
-then go for heads....second best bet...being an L-82 you could rework them at a shop or use aftermarkets
-cam+lifters is definately hands on...and a bigger job...so if you want to avoid tearing up your engine apart do this last...but if possible do it when you do the heads so you can match them together...
p.s.- Best BANG for the BUCK ....hands down ...is put a lil' nitrous in it...small V8's can handle a shot of 75-125HP when you want to play would be a simple add-on for a stock engine or mildly built up one.....whatever they say....you can't beat the price and performance of Nitrous....its an unbeatable performance add-on for the cost and simplicity....all engines are able to handle more horse power than stock...so if you stay in their recomendations of HP for the hardware they provide....it won't hurt anything..
just use a WOT sensor and NOT the lil' red button....LOL....cause sometimes its hard to stop squeezing the juice....

Nice 80. A lot of what has been mentioned is tuning.
Fix exhaust. This was on the forum but is lost again. See Why Exhaust is Big Problem on 75-81 for HP at http://www.corvettefaq.com/
Engine/Drivetrain
Ganey Exhaust Post
Then cam & intake. Many do heads later when ready.
This is a good start & can put it over 300 HP & running like a CORVETTE.

Re: easiest hp upgrades for my 1980L-82 (1980 razz)
1980 Razz:
Before you decide to purchase the SVE KwikCurve kit, I recommend that you hook up a timing light to your car to see what it’s current settings are. (Initial and total timing advance @ a given RPM.)
The installation was VERY easy. The procedure is outlined well in the included instruction booklet. It leaves nothing to guess.
Basically you need either a timing light that has an adjustable advance feature OR you can use a regular non-adjustable timing light if you place “timing tape” around the harmonic balancer so that you can see the varying degrees that you will need to observe during the process.
I’m at work right now and going from memory so excuse me if I miss something but I’m just trying to convey generalities regarding the process.
-Verify and record the timing results with your stock setup.
-Install the centrifugal advance springs provided with the kit and record timing results.
-Remove distributor from engine, verify end-play setting and correct if needed.
-Install the new vacuum advance unit, modified weights and springs.
-Re-install distributor and set initial timing and then check and record centrifugal advance settings vs. RPM.
-Go for a test ride to see if you can feel any difference. Unless the previous owner had already optimized the timing you WILL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE!
Take your time and enjoy it. I should take less than 2 hours at your leisure.
Have fun!

Re: easiest hp upgrades for my 1980L-82 (1980 razz)
If you don't mind ignoring any safety considerations, take the spare off and see if you notice any difference.
Maybe it's my imagination, but I swear the car feels lighter and like I've "pulled in the anchor". I don't know how much weight that removes, but I know it's about 1" to 2" higher in the back now.
I carry a cell phone & "fix a flat" now instead: Substaintially lighter :yesnod:
Anyway, besides getting stranded somewhere, the biggest concern I had with the spare removal was the concern some brought up about reduced structural strength in the event of a rear collision. Definitely something to think about.
Just a thought.
