Made a decision on gears

Re: Made a decision on gears (70 LS1)
I could be wrong but I thought that all C3 carriers are the same. The way they get the steeper gears to work is the ring gear is made thicker. I switched from 3.08 to 3.90 and the newer gear was much thicker. I did not need to change the carrier. I did hear that ring gear spacers should be avoided if at all possible. 4.56 huh? what tranny do you have? If you use the car on the highway much, yur moter will be screamin just to keep up with traffic. Of coarse I dont know your total situation but 4.56 are some pretty steep gears.

I am using a T-56 transmission from a 99 Camaro with a 6th gear ratio of 0.50:1. It will pull 2000 RPM at 71mph.
If you go bigger than 3.90 you need a different carrier. You can install a spacer, but it is not reliable.

You will be able to find the carrier on E-Bay (E-Scam, allthough i've haven't had a bad deal yet) for a hundred bucks or lower. 4.56's are going to be real tough to find. I looked and looked for over 6 months until I found a set. Just recently though a set of 4.88 Zoom gears brand new/never used went on E-Scam for just over 50 bucks!! Damn!! But like I said, you're gonna have a real hard time finding actual GM gears for your Vette, since that's what most people want. I just sold my 4.11's and someone in California snapped them up almost instantly after I advertised them here on the forum!
