Default Vette Specialists in Miami?

I've been having trouble trying to find a good mechanic who specializes in vettes and performance mods. Most I've run into specialize in rice burners.
Appreciate it!

I do everything I can myself. I don't know of any mechanics that don't get creative and mess things up:mad . I can't even find a tire place that can align my tires:crazy: .

Good luck and let me know if you find anyone  :chevy

How do you like your hooker headers? I was thinking of changing mine out but I haven't had much feedback on them. What kind of performance did you get out of them?

Don't know the name of the place but in South Miami on Sunset about 5 blocks East of US 1 on left side you will find a small gas station that sells no gas but does wonderfull work on Vetts.

Its right next door to a drive in cleaner.

Can't miss it.

Thats all they do, owner is really busey so be patient.

Its worth it!

That was Dave Walters' place....sorry but it closed down years ago. I live about 5 minutes from where it used to be. Its a flower shop now. One of his former mechanics has a place over on Commerce Lane on the other side of US1 but I don't know the name.

FYI...Walters' factory original '67 L88 was featured in the new Jan. '02 Vette Magazine.

Commerce Lane, where is that or where is it close to? I'm familiar with the Sunset area around US1, but not with that street. Thx

Commerce Lane is one block north of US1 & runs parallel to it between 62nd Ave & 57th Ave. There's alot of body shops, mechanics, etc. The shop I mentioned is on the east end (toward 57th) on the south side of the street.

Wait...you owe me...I just found it in the Yellow Pages. Dave's Car Clinic, 5800 Commerce Lane, 305-661-7711. I an NOT recommending this place just passing on info, OK? I talked to Dave (I think) about rebuilding my motor, seemed nice enough but didn't get a good enough vibe so I had a more well known shop do the motor.

Another Corvette place is Corvette Specialists, 300 NW 73 St, 305-758-1132. Again no recommendation. I talked to them once about R&Ring my top & the guy was a dick so I never called again. Nasty neighborhood too.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback! I'm going to try to get a feel for Dave's Car Clinic. Might want to do a few mods as a little x-mas presant to myself. I had a couple of things fixed at Corvette Hangout on on 5581 nw 79th ave (305-597-9400) and had some mixed results. Their labor rates are good ($45/hr) and normally charge per project, however, the main guy there Iggy seems to only want to sell. If you come back with a prob it is a hassle.

Don't mind at all. Wanted to see about getting new headers, tweaking the carb & the distributer a bit. To be honest, I'm still coming up to speed with what mods I can do and what will benefit me the most...still have a little ways to getting there. I hate going to "speed mod" shop and all they can suggest is pretty much changing out the exhaust.

I recently went to the Corvette Hangout and they ended up breaking a gaskit (sp?) for my headers, cracked one of my headers, and left a hammer resting in the engine compartment! I did not notice the hammer in their till a couple of days later and half of the yellow rubber handle had melted all over! I am going over there today to express myself...hopefully without ending up in the slammer.

On a positive note, I then took my car to a Speed & Sport (which has done great work for me in the past) and they fixed all the problems that I originally had plus fixed the probs that the Corvette Hangout caused and still charged me cheaper than the Corvette Hangout. Should've went to Speed & Sport to begin with.

Lesson learned: once you find someone who knows their stuff, don't bother with anyone else.

It's a small world!!! I've known Oscar, the owner of Speed & Sport, for about 20 years. We both were members of a car club called S. Fla. Street Machines and he used to be my boss at Performance Center (in the early 80's). I don't think I ever got a paycheck because I owed him from all the stuff I ordered for my car during the week. :)

I would have recommended him but last time we talked, he told me he was concentrating on late model, routine type stuff (i.e. tuneups, fluid changes, etc.). I'm glad he was able to help you out. He is very knowledgeable and trustworthy, I wouldn't hesitate to take it to him next time.

Never take your car to the CORVETTE SPECIALIST in Miami

I took a C5 there for them to fix the rocker panel scratch that my previous mechanic did to the car also to lower the car to the standard c5 height because after upgrading the regular springs for the zo6 springs the car went over his height. To make the history short, Ernie the incompetent mechanic low the car all the way to the bottom and between him and the other guy do not know his name finish breaking one of the rocker panel and RON knowing that did not want to take responsability.

RON is very smart, in a friendly way he will try to take most money out of you, they overated the work hours and do not provide clear estimates causing this overcharges.

At the end I had to take the car out of there and have another body shop fix the correct height, till today I still do not understand why it is so difficult for them to do exactly what I ask for.

*Important things to know

Do they know about corvette ? - They been doing it for 50 years, Yes
Is RON a cro ? - I will said he is slick, he know how to take the most out of you.
Will you recommended ? - No
Why they act this way ? - Because they know you have money
Is Ernie incompetent ? - Maybe not, but he get angry very easily and do not understand that the person that paid is the one that commands
