Default Camaro Owner Gets Jealous?

This happened to me last Saturday and I thought I would share it with you guys.

My girlfriend works at the local mall and she worked until 9:00 on Saturday. I told her that I would meet her in front of the movie theatre at 9:15 to catch a movie. I come rumbling in around 9:10 and there's a huge line congregated in front of the movie theatre. I cruise on by the entrance to the theatre as everyone stares. I spot a '99 Orange/Red SS Camaro parked away from everyone. I decided to park beside the Camaro, figuring that he is less likely to open his door into the side of my car or anything of that nature.

After the movie my girlfriend and I are walking out to the 'Vette (the parking lot is still somewhat filled) and I notice the Camaro is still sitting there. As we are approaching the 'Vette I could hear some people talking behind me. One of the guys said "Ahhh...look at that, an Orange 'Vette parked beside me!" he said it in a very disgusted manor. One of the other guys said "don't they put 6 cylinders in those?". -My girlfriend was totally oblivious to everything that was going on :) - I opened the door for my girlfriend and glared over at the 4 people who were getting into the Camaro (2 guys, 2 girls). Both of the guys were just staring at me. I started the 'Vette up and could no longer hear the exhaust note of the Camaro :). I glanced over and they were still staring at me (one of the girls was smiling)....so I pushed in the clutch and gave them two quick 5000RPM shots from the side pipes, and cruised on leasurely out of the parking lot :D

I realize that his Camaro would blow the doors off of my 'Vette now. The key word is now :). I've seen him around town before and everyone says that his Camaro is pretty quick. I guess I'm going to have to go looking for him when I get the big block in. :smash:

VETTE - ENVY: a well known condition whereby a male buys a "hi-performance" car (Camaro / Firebird / Mustang)to compensate for feelings of inadequacy then realizes that others have nicer and/or more desirable cars than him.

Also known as the WHHAAA syndrome: :cry :cry :cry

Some people a just plain ignorant. I think you handled it well. You definitely want to find this guy once you have your big block. As for fast, yes they are pretty fast but I just had a friend beat a new SS Camaro with his old '67 Camaro. He has a strong engine but nothing radical, it's just a 350 with an extreme energy 268 cam and vortec heads. Also, he has a 3 spd manual and tall gears! You may be able to take that '99 now, but certainly after the big block.

Hey, I drive a rusty '71 Camaro right now. I wouldn't mind any vette parkin next to me. I'm a car guy and even though my doors are mostly rust I am VERY careful opening them. I don't want to nick even a lowly K-car parked beside me. Then again, I guess not many people have respect for other peoples property anymore. :cuss

BTW, if you had parked next to me at that theatre, I wouldn't have let you leave without talking about your car first! :)

I had a very embarassing street race in my last car (Porsche 928S4). I was playing with a black SS and I took him in first and second. When I shifted to third, he was GONE!!! I thought that it would have been the other way. The 928 is made for top end and third gear was a lot of fun. I think he had something special done to his Camaro (atleast that's what I tell myself). One of the main reasons I bought the Vette and got rid of the Porsche was for the capabilty to go quicker in the 1/4 mile. The Porsche ran 13.8 - 14.1 without much skill. It would have taken a ton of money to make it go any faster. The Vette should be in that range now(if I get it on the road some day).

I see the SS on the base every now and then and am just waiting till we meet again.......

Cure:
1 part Corvette Convertible 1971 Vintage
1 part GM performance Parts ZZ4 Crate engine
My friend has a 98 SS slightly modded and I have him by about 3 car lengths every time with my stock ZZ4. :yesnod: :yesnod: When you get your BB in you should have no problems providing you get traction.
Now go out there and get him!!!!!
John

That story made ME mad!!! :mad

Just remember:

Pony Cars (with rare exception, i.e. '67 Firebird 400, C.O.P.O. ZL-1 Camaro, etc.) = Redneck Death Wagons

Excuse me, but I have a Camaro parked next to my Vette EVERY night. I do not consider myself a redneck, nor do I go out looking for Vette's to kill. I'm more interested in stomping some stupid **** ricer. :smash: :D Or the occasional Rustang. My Z still has all the old "5.0 LITER H.O." badging all over it :D Big difference between a 190HP 305 L69 and a 420HP 383

I've been talking with Tony (MoMo) and he is giving me some advise with my setup. My setup will be pushing about 500-550HP @ 5500RPMs and 550 lb ft of torque @ 4500 RPMs. Come spring time I'm gonna go looking for Mr. Orange Camaro. I believe when he hears the 454 big block come rumbling in on open header Hooker side pipes, he'll be singing a different tune. :yesnod:

Young-grasshopper, Never cast deception without the means to back it up. :D I had a 67' RS in college and raced a 67' SS on evening after class. Great race for a 60' them reality sunk in and the SS gained traction.. Good luck with the Rat motor.
