What exactly does this button do..
This has been buggin me for a while so I guess I'll ask. In my '71 it's the one under the "Seat Belts" light. Was it supposed to silence a buzzer (that I don't have?) I really need to buy an owners manual I guess :)

Agree. You need to buy an owner's manual. Lots and lots of little (and useful) tidbits in there. Every Corvette left St. Louis/Bowling Green with one and should have one. The button in question should turn off the seat belt reminder light. On my '68, it also turns off the warning buzzer.
:)

Is it just me or does that seem silly. A buzzer I can see but a light? Who cares if it's on... oh well.. off to buy an owner's manual..
Thanks guys...

Yes, it seemed silly to me too. And the worst thing was that over the years, the paint on the panel surrounding the button had been worn off by big-fingered silly light turn off-ers. So when I pulled the panel to re-paint it, I left the bulb out. End of problem! :D

Funny...everyone that rides in my car seems to get a kick out of that button. Sometimes (rarely), I even let them push it.

For some reason that I can't explain, I just can't drive my '68 until I press that button and the light goes out. It BUGS ME!

Seriously, at one time I had it hooked to the garage door opener. Now it is back to factory just because.

Re: What exactly does this button do.. (sdotson)
I noticed all the responses seem very "enlightening", but the real reason for the button is to turn the "seat belt" light off. The light circuit is set every time the ignition is activetied (engine started) with the assumption that both the driver and passenger needs to be reminded to put on their seat belts. All this was put in place before seat belt switches were installed in the belt heads themselves that turned off the light when the belts were engaged.
I'm halfway assuming everyone knew this and were just being funny.

What button? On my 72 i dont have a button..just a light..that doesnt work. Also talking about lights..when i put my lights on the 'Lights' light goes on brightly. When the lights are locked up the light dims down. But if u just lightly touch the 'light' screen the globe goes out alltogether. Weird.
