I know its been covered before, but I can't find anything in the archives anymore. Do I have to remove the driveshaft? :smash: Please say no... I just put the d@mn thing in after my engine swap. If anyone has a good procedure for replacing this piece, please post it.

i just replaced mine a few months back with a vette brakes kit....

i found the secret was to have the bolt go in "in line" with the driveshaft (it wont go in from the side...)... u can then bend the poly bushing enough to get it in... it was so easy......

so angle it with the thingie in the hole and the head so its parallel with the driveshaft and youll be allright..

i immedately noticed the difference with the new bushing!! much less vibration and better shifts..!!

oh and i found that a tie rod tool did the job for getting the old peice out.... or a prybar will do it too

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to put the new piece on tomorrow. Maybe I can get rid of the loud BANG and dramatic squat when I put it in gear. :)

I found it easier to do it with the driveshaft out...I am sure it can be done with it in...but after struggling, I finally just pulled the driveshaft out.

yah i struggled with it for 5 min from the sides until i tried putting it in from the front in parallel with the driveshaft and the #@$@! thing just dropped right in like butter!

i felt like a bubba becuase for some reason that angle wasnt obvious to me before...

I have a new differential bushing to install too. I had been putting it off because I thought that removing the driveshaft was madatory.
I'm about to remove my transmission for a rebuild so the driveshaft problem won't be a problem!
I'm also going to install new adjustable strut rods and change out the ring and pinion gears while-I'm-at-it.
I'm glad to hear that you can feel a difference from changing out the diff. bushing. My car is going to have so many reasons to feel different that I'm not going to know which was best! Fresh trans, lower gears, diff bushing, new poly bushed strut rods and a new engine mount.
The bad part is that I FINALLY eliminated all of my exhaust leaks from the header flanges, collectors and pinhole on top of cross over pipe. Now I have to remove the headers along with the rest of the exhaust to do the transmission swap. Arrrggggg!
