Whistle while it works
My car developed a whistle sound which I at first thought was a belt problem. Tightened the belts, and still whistles. Thought maybe vaccum leak, so I got out my trusty stethescope and it seems to be coming from the A/C compressor area. Now, my A/C has not been working because when I turn it on, there are BAD noises coming from the compressor (intermittently). Is there something that could be causing the whistle in the compressor? Can it be repaired without opening up the system?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Could be a bearing in the A/C Compressor going out / getting bad. If so, no way to repair without going into the system and removing the refrigerant and compressor. If the problem is just with the A/C Compressor clutch, then this can be replaced with the compressor still installed and A/C system intact.
