Well we made it down to Road Atlanta yesterday, safe and sound ... we met all kinds of nice people, and we stayed in a Christian Hotel on the way down (no wonder I had nightmares! )
As you all are already aware, we had a bit of a run in with The Law ... The Boys in Blue say "Hi!" to Steve and Frank ... we said that we did know them, and that Canada is a pretty big country ... but I don't think they believed us ... they also mentioned something about having the Chopper on standby, what ever that ment
Our Corvette Forum Canadian Weather Curse continued ...
West Virginia ...
Virginia ...
North Carolina ...
South Carolina ...
Georgia ...
We finally got to Road Atlanta ... Irena and I went right to the track and picked up our tickets at Will Call, then headed over to the Corvette Corral ... Ray and Laurie headed to their hotel, and Ray planned on returning for the Parade Lap, but got stuck in Atlanta Rush Hour Traffic ... Imagine all the traffic on the 401, crammed into only 3 lanes! Not good, Ray was not a happy camper, so to set thing right, he will be visiting the "Tail of the Dragon" for the trip home
We ran into Rick and Janet at the Corral ... Rick was having fun trying to keep all the red clay dust off of his White car ...
Did the Parade Lap ... I was number 100 on the sign up sheet!
We visited the Padock area for a quick visit ... and they had a special tent celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Petite Le Manns ... Here is the winning C5-R ...
We stopped by the Corvette Racing Pit Area for a quick visit ... Johnny O. say's Hello ... Johnny is hiding behind the pole ...
Well that is all for now ....

Safety Car
Don't you mean Rick & Lorraine?
Hey I was also noticing that your exhaust looks aligned. Much better look.

Well we finally made it home ... Ray and Laura decided not to visit relatives in North Carolina ... so we cruised together all the way back to the Great White North ... after a couple of detours ...
First though, here are some pic's from Friday ... The Celeb. Judging took place, and I ran into Steve from Bowling Green ... He is the Quality Control Manager for the plant ... and he was impressed by the number of cars that came down from Canada ... I pointed out Ray's car ... and then made sure Ray opened the hood ... Steve lost his brother (a firefighter) during 9/11 ... so Ray's occupation, and tribute on his hoodliner made it a no-brainer for him.
Cruise Bear was the icing on the cake IMHO ...
Lou G showed up in his Speed GT World Challenge car at the Corvette Corral ... I spoke to him about his GT2 plans for next year, he and his team are very pumped ... hopefully if GM decides to alter their GT1 plans, they will support this GT2 entry, and keep the Corvette Corrals operating...
We started walking around the Paddock, and ran across this car that must have missed the safety briefing ...
Cool Little 4 wheeler ...
We walked by the GM VIP tent ... and I decided to poke my head in ... and nice gal from GM came over, and she thought she recognized me (not sure where from ) but I used that to gain us entry into the tent ... no one was really in there ... so we made ourselves at home, Irena made herself a sandwich and we chatted with the GM rep's that were there ... I think they were just happy to see some other human beings!
Janet won a pace lap in the Corvette! Way to Go!
We then decided to stop by Corvette Racing ... and see if we could locate Olivier for our promised, guided tour
Olivier was showing a friend the C6.R ... so I yelled over to him, and he saw us waving at him, he gave us a BIG smile, and invited us in ... he gave us the full tour, the cockpit of the car is amazing! He took us through all the controls, and showed us all the special buttons on the steering wheel ... Great Guy!
During our trek around the track, Irena developed a nasty blister on her foot, so I asked Olivier if we could impose upon him, and let her sit in the back area, where the drivers relax and eat/drink ... he said no problem, and escorted her back there ... Ray went back to the Corral, and picked up the golf cart, and we sat in the Corvette Racing Tent, and chatted with Olivier and his wife ... what an afternoon! He even went and brought us drinks! What a Great Guy!

Race Day!
Well, if was finally Saturday ... meaning Race Day!
The Massaratti was sitting on the Pole ... it had been set up better than the Vette's for Qualifying ... but Corvette Racing knew what they needed to do to dial the Vette's in for the Race.
Quickly into Lap 1 ... the #3 Corvette passed the Massaratti ... and then the #4 car did too ... but then tragedy struck on Lap 18 ... a Full Course Yellow was anounced ... we watched as all the cars qued up behind the pace car, and we noticed that the #3 car was not present, we held our breath and waited ... nothing ... finally word spread that one of the prototype cars had made contact with the Corvette at the top of the Esses, sending the Vette out of control into the tire barriers ... Jan was OK, and popped out of the car quickly.
We watched as the IMSA safety team brought the car into the Paddock area ...
We then decided to put the golf carts to use, and proceded to visit a number of the interesting places around the track ...
This is the area where the crash occured ....
Some of the Crazy Canuck Contingent ...
Scott and Kay invited all of us over to their RV to enjoy the race there ... so we spent most of the morning with them ... then Ray and I decided to visit the Corvette Racing Paddock to check on the team ... we caught Ron Fellow's over by the trailer ... unfortunately, due to the crash, he did not even get to drive a lap ... we felt very sorry for him ... hopefully, he will be back next year ...
I went back to my hotel for part of the afternoon, enjoyed a nice dip in the pool, and Irena did some shopping ... we then headed back to the track ... Scott and Kay invited all the Canucks over to their RV for a little Thanksgiving diner ... and they proceeded to serve us an amazing Ham! Thanks to both Kay and Scott for their outstanding hospitality!
We watched the race from their RV area ... but by that point, the Massaratti was out of the race, and the #4 car was the only GT1 car running ... so we decided to call it an early night and head back to the hotel for a quiet evening ....
