I'm a Traitor! Just bought a '67 ex-BB side pipe roadster
On a trip to the local Corvette supplier, I spotted a Marina Blue '67 BB 4 sp. roadster with side pipes for sale. The price was low, and the car was in VERY,VERY GOOD condition. However, it was still more than I had, so I forgot about it. When I returned the next Saturday, I asked one of the guys who works there about it. He said that although the car now had a SB, it had indeed been a factory BB car. Driver's side hood brace, 427 hood (with emblem holes plugged and filled), large brass radiator, large relief in front crossmember, transistor ignition, u-joint bolts and caps instead of u-bolts, 6500 red line tach, large front sway bar, rear sway bar, with matching #s close-ratio Muncie, and matching #'s rear end! The car had a new top, the chrome is in beautiful condition, the black interior is like new. It had new side pipes and covers; new wheels and tires; the frame is near perfect (NO rust), and the car is tight and quiet.
The guy I know over at the Corvette place is a straight talker, and he said it was one of the best he'd seen in a while. As I agonized over it, he told me that the guy was willing to take $8000. LESS than the very low asking price!
I drove off, watching half a dozen guys drooling all over this car! About two miles down the road, I turned around and drove back. I'm thinking: "Screw it! I'll buy it! I don't know where I'll get the money, but I won't let this one go!" To make a long story short, after the initial shock of being broke wore off, I posted the VIN and Trim Tag #s over on the "C-1 and C-2" and "Factory Correct Resto." boards. Those guys were a LOT of help over there.
And what a surprise ! Not only was the car most likely a 427-435, but was originally Tuxedo black (the RAREST color that year) with a saddle interior! Talk about jackpot! WOW!!!
It'll take some work to bring it back, but I finally have the car I've wanted (and couldn't afford!) for 35 years! Oh, yeah. I'm keeping the C-3 with the ZZ/502, also!

You did the right thing!
There's no way I would have passed that up either.

Where'd you get it? Corvette Mike in Plymouth? I grew up in central Mass and my dad's bought and sold a few of cars through them. He seems to like those guys down there and he loves his 2000 Millenium yellow coupe that he got this summer.

MassVette,
Congrats with your excellent purchase! Sounds like it's time to hunt down a 427 block and get the hood emblem re-installed :) .

No, not a traiter! We're all just green as he!! with envy!! Just continue to hang out here instead of deserting us for the C1/C2 forum. IMHO, that year BB is the only one I would have other than my 69 since, with it's one-year only stinger hood, it is unique just like the 69s in looks and unique features (louver trim, fact sidepipes, etc). I'm just dumbfounded you got it for only $8k considering there is an NOM 67 coupe in the C2 FS section that has front-end damage and has not been driven for 20 yrs and he wants $35k for it! Congrats!!!
Drive it like you stole it, 'cause ya did!! :smash:
Got to have pics! Pics! Pics!

Traitor?? How so? :) We all love our sharks, but buying a 'vette of any vintage, colour, engine size, originality, or condition isn't treason. It's KEEPING THE FAITH! :)

ummmm... READ fellas!! He said it was $8,000 LESS than the already low asking price!!!! If the price was $8,000 we would all be driving 67 bigblocks, right? :) Obviously it was a price too good to pass up, anywhere from $20k to $40, and none of our business! Congrats and good luck! Now.... testing my own reading comprehension..... what engine is in it now? did you mention that? Maybe another 502 in your future? MJ

OK, maybe I'm missing something, but I read "8,000. (note the period) LESS than the already low asking proice". It looks like 8K to me, course that would be rediculous, and it's probably like MNJack says......
