Yes, itīs a ricer......
BUT to be honest, I must admit that this car was the best handling car I ever drove in my whole life.
I donīt have racing experience and I donīt say that my driving skills are superb, but I can tell you this car goes like hell.
240 HP from 2.0 L is an awsome number.
The car reaches it max. performance at ~9000 rpms...... it has a very short shifting 6 gear tranny and the steeeeeeeeering, simply wonderful.
Iīm pretty sure that this car has awsome cornering g's, but how does it perform on the autobahn? I reached very fast 200 kph with the S2000 on the Autobahn (still hope I got no ticket :troll )and I wonder if it would outperform my C3.
In the kill section I often read that they smoke S2000, but after my ride Iīm not so sure about this any more.......
My vette has much more power and torque than the S2000, so I think there might be a chance of smoking it on the straight.

I can't say fo sure either way, but if they did beat the C3 then it took them nearly 20 years and it's about time...oh well...too bad the S2000 will NEVER be as cool as the C3's.

I saw a S2000 at the local AUto show this past weekend. I will give Honda credit for making a production engine that revs to 9K RPM and comes with a warranty, they deserve credit for that achievement. But, the body is too bland, and there is (IMHO) no replacement for buckets of torque in the driving experience.

That is a motorcycle with 4 wheels...who wants to rev to 6k just to reach the powerband..........Not me.... Now go drive a lotus Esprit turbo if ya want some serious handling

In my opinion, comparing the S2000 to a C3 Corvette is like comparing apples to oranges. It's not really a fair comparison, the S2000 has 20+ years of technology on the C3s. A closer comparison would be to pair the S2000 against the C5. I believe that the C5 would blow it out of the water (so to speak). :smash: Then again that is just my opinion and I am a little biased when it comes to American made cars :flag

Yea I just love it when people say that their $50,000 2001 high performance car outperforms my 32 year old $15000 car.
Well DUH, it better!
The sad thing is it's not all THAT much better!

I dont think many of us buy 32 year old cars simply for the performance (even though they do perform pretty good) At least for me I bought it because of the lines the shere elegance of the 68-82 havent been duplicated anywhere in yesterdays or todays autos. There is absolutely nothing like a C3 out there power, performance, looks and they are really cool!!

Not to mention the fact that you can squeeze an extra 220 hp out of a stock 78 without even going NEAR the limit, for about $2000. I challenge you to get an extra 60 ponies out of an S2000 for $2000.

Re: Last weekend I had the chance to drive an S2000 Honda,
One of my best friends (and coworkers) has an S2000 and I have driven it quite a bit. Its a pretty balanced car and is pretty fun to drive. But its really low on power. Its not nearly as fast as the mags/Honda say. You really gotta rev it up and drop the clutch to get those awesome 0-60 numbers. Without killing the car, and just doing a normal off the line acceleration it was no faster than my stock Eclipse (0-60 in about 6.5 seconds). My friend is always talking about getting more power for that car. And stock I think it only has about 150 ft. lbs of tq.
But, it is a fun car to drive still. And sounds great when you get it up past 7000 rpm (when power starts to kick in).
The only other comments I have about it are that its a pain in the butt to get in/out of for me (6'2") and rear tires don't last long at all on that. He's got about 12k miles on his and has just worn down his 2nd set of rear tires. He does drive it pretty hard tho.

Re: Last weekend I had the chance to drive an S2000 Honda, (terryrudy)
I agree that comparing a C3 to an S2000 is like apples to oranges. They're different cars. In cornering, top speed, etc, a stock S2000 would probably beat the pants off a stock C3, especially a mid 70's like mine. But on the other hand, anyone with the money can go to the local Honda store and buy a perfect new one. C3's haven't been made for 20 years and will never be made again. The ones that are out there are the ONLY ones that will EVER be out there. C3's are classics. Now for a comparison which is a little more fair, take a late 70's or early 80's Honda and race it against a stock C3.

First of all thanks for your replies...
There are many different opinions out there about japanese cars.
Well, whenever I drive a car, I try to be "fair" judge.
It doesnīt really matter for me who built this car or where it came from....
If it performs good, I give credit to the builders.
I love my C3, and everybody who has an eye on me and my project knows that I do really everything to make the car perfect.
And I do not only like the performance of my C3. I like the sound, the look, simply the feeling when driving it. Itīs  and it turns heads.
Much more than an S2000......
I had the chance to drive the Honda, I did it and was surprised who good it performed.
Yes, a C5 would blow it away, it has over 100 HP more and much more torque.
I only wanted to tell you that I had great fun last weekend, and that ricers arnīt always that bad.

Can't believe someone on this forum would post such a thing!
Obviously you have no clue as to the ownership of a VET.

I bet youīre one of these guys who think we have kangaroos in Austria.
Donīt be so focused on only one thing, you may miss something else...
See, if I really like the S2000 more than my vette, why would I spend all my money and time into my C3
You simply didnīt get it...
I love the vette, but I recognize all the others out there and yes, I can even appreciate them too.
Itīs sooo childish... Mustand versus vette, ricers vs. V8 cars.......
Sorry, thatīs not the way Iīm thinking, perhaps itīs because I live in a Country in the east and Iīve no clue of the ownership of a vette.... :troll
